South Kensington held many memories, most, unfortunately, had been soured in Mathis' departure — the revelation that destroyed her family: he'd thrown away his life for another. Something he thought to be grander than the love of his parents and his sister. And yet, as she walked outside, coffee in hand at the front of the café, a small smile tugged at curling lips.
She'd missed this place, in particular.
Thirty minutes, that was all she was granted before she had to go back to the London Advocate and deal with an undoubtedly aggravated Felicity.
Montparnasse was somewhere she'd spent time with her parents as a kid, and for the longest while, she remembered the absolute joy when they could afford a day out and would end up here. When she could handle it, she'd visit... try and remember the times they'd lost.
Looking for a chair, she settled with the one closest to the getaway route should her phone pop off because her boss was as impatient as Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada. In thirty minutes, she was sure she could crack out a few chapters of her current read; however, the waft of cigarettes had her nose scrunching.
For God's sake. French people!
"Does every French woman smoke cigarettes instead of eating..." A look of trepidation flashed across her features, talking to no one in particular. Her ramblings hadn't gone away; in fact, in light of recent events, they were worse. "It's concerning, I mean... I've written so many puff pieces on the detriment of eating disorders — but my God... food is good." Actively pulling a piece of croissant off, she shoved it in her mouth and swallowed, a little more aggressively than she would've hoped. "And here they are, pretending like that food in front of them isn't making their stomachs turn over. I'll just... never understand."
