lu & nancy's friendship was one that , at first glance , didn't quite make sense . the sun & moon , the girls seem to be opposites : nancy with her type a style , pastels & modest cuts , and lucia with her wild side , edgy and bold and brave . nancy's never really been concerned with outward appearances though , & for that she's grateful : if she would have shied away from lucia , she would have missed out on a dear friendship .

one would think lucia would look out of place in nancy's tidy , bright room , but when you're as confident as she seems to be you own every room you walk into . the pair are painting each other's nails , or at least they're trying to when they're not busy debating who gets to choose the next cassette tape . lucia's hand is grasped in one of nancy's , a vain attempt to hold her still so the polish doesn't flood her nailbed & get everywhere . when she's finished , lips purse , gently blowing cool air on the tacky , sticky polish. ' there , it's all done . be careful , though , it's not completely dry . '

high school is supposed to be fun & exciting, or at least that's what people tell jane. however, she's ashamed to admit she doesn't see the appeal. being around people her age is one thing, but the crowded hallways with loud noises quickly became too much for her to endure. she gets overstimulated too often.

sitting on a bench just outside of the high school, she begins playing with the ringer on her finger. she can't help as her lips pushed into a thin line. ❛ does it get easier ? ❜ maybe she's asking the wrong person, but she doesn't know who else to turn to. ❛ lucas tells me not to worry too much, but i am currently failing in my math class & i don't know what to do. ❜ teenage woes feel heavier when she doesn't feel like she fits in anywhere. on top of that, she feels alone in the world, & she still blames herself for the events that happened last summer.

               HIGH   SCHOOL   CAME   WITH   MANY   THINGS,   AND   SOME   of   those   things   were   more   bullies.   He   didn’t   care   for   them   in   the   slightest,   but   they   cared   for   him   more   than   he   would   know.   Not   that   he   wanted   to   be   under   their   watchful   eye.   If   anything   he   wanted   the   opposite.   It   was   like   they   knew   what   sort   of   freshman   he   was   going   to   be,   what   he   liked,   and   where   and   who   he   was   going   to   hang   out   with.   That   was   at   the   beginning.   Now   that   school   was   in   full   swing,   they   definitely   knew.   It   was   sad   to   say   that   he   was   used   to   this   treatment.   No   one   should   be.   Yet   the   name   calling,   pushing,   everything   was   just…   normal.   His   mom   didn’t   need   to   know   about   it.   She   hardly   did.   It   was   one   less   stress   for   her,   one   less   thing   for   her   to   worry   about.

                  SUCH   WAS   HIS   LIFE   TRYING   TO   GET   OUT   of   school   before   upper   class   teens   saw   him.   Normally   he   would   hide   out   until   most   of   the   kids   fanned   out   home,   giving   him   the   clear.   Also   because   it   meant   less   time   at   home,   and   that   meant   less   time   alone.   However,   today   he   simply   wanted   to   be   home.   So,   a   quick   dash   towards   the   exit,   bike   free,   and   home   free—   so   he   thought.   One   yank   on   his   shirt   had   him   huffing   back   two   steps.   Jocks   no   doubt   by   their   strength,   and   the   fact   they   had   it   out   for   Hellfire.   Though   the   yank   of   his   shirt   wasn’t   the   only   one   he   felt.   He   felt   a   dull   pain   on   his   head.   Fingers   had   curled   around   his   curls   to   pull   on   it.   A   teasing   tone   spoke   words   of   how   dumb   it   looked.   Great.   

               LIPS   PARTED   TO   MAKE   A   RETORT,   BUT   A   different   voice   spoke   for   him.   Blues   found   a   female   standing   before,   clearly   had   pushed   his   attackers   away   from   him.   She   stood   firm,   probably   had   a   mean   scowl   on   her   face,   and   waited   patiently   until   they   backed   away.   Dustin   swallowed.   Not   many   would   have   done   what   she   did.   Made   him   cautious   upon   her   motives,   “   Um,   thanks.   You   didn’t   have   to   do   that.   ”   It   might   have   sounded   ungrateful,   but   the   truth   was   he   was   feeling   the   exact   opposite.

“  we  talkin’  from  a  philosophical  standpoint,  or  did  you  also  catch  news  about  munson  and  his  merry  band  of  misfits  covering  principal  higgins’  car  with  shaving  cream ?  ”   all  right,   so  maybe,  that  was  actually funny.  higgins  had a  stick  so  far  up  his  ass  that  dahlia’s  not  sure  how  the  guy  could  walk.   but,  it  only  made  things  that  much  worse  for  the  super  senior.   didn’t  he  ever  wanna  graduate ?   “   or,   you   got  something  else  on  your  mind,  lu ?  ”
