H: Heat
5. Do they have a favorite winter activity?
Snow is maybe one of the most fascinating things to Beth, considering that the only place to find it back home is rarely on the slopes of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, and two hundred miles between the Big Island and her native Oahu was impossible growing up. As it stands, Beth’s favourite activity involves lots of heavy clothes and all the snow.Making snow angels, building traditional snow-people and dressing them in the finest of island fashions, sleigh rides around Central Park with a hip flask of Brandy and Cocoa.Having then moved onto LA, Beth hasn’t been up to the Sierra Nevadas or Big Sur or any of the snow basins California has in store for her, but she would like to day dream about snow-boarding. Can’t be that tough, can it?
R: Rules
4. Have they broken any rules they now regret breaking?
Beth doesn’t break rules. She’ll skirt the very edges, maybe stretch them just a tiny bit, but in the end, she always caves. The closest she’s come to actually breaking a rule was switching majors in the middle of medical school which seemed to be the breaking point of her relationship with the Admiral, though it had never been very cordial to begin with. She likes to think that might change some day, but it’s not really likely.
U: Underdog5. Have they surprised people with being good at something?
Beth’s honest sensuality when it comes to life, whether it’s about food, about philosophy, about the ocean lends a kind of poetry to her things when she’s comfortable enough with someone to let herself speak. That’s a rare happenstance. But also, the girl can dance like no one’s business. It’s a strange blend of hula, belly dancing, modern club and a little latin flare, picked up here and there and smoothed out into a collage of movement. Mostly because music isn’t always about the words {though some of the lyrics she’s misheard are hilarious}, but the feeling of it, the way it pulses to life around her and her instinct to mimic that rhythm.
Y: You
2. What inspired you to create them?
To be honest, she was originally intended to be a fan-fiction OC, for CA:TWS. I needed/wanted someone who would take in Bucky Barnes and treat him like a person with no other intention or design. Someone who could be sympathetic to his plight without romanticising the relationship, someone who could genuinely befriend him. I decided then that she would be compassionate, a nurse {who could have been an amazing surgeon but lacked the ego}, and I wanted her to have a vague connection to the Avengers {and because ‘Riley’ was a throw-away character with a two line dialogue mention, I didn’t think anyone would mind...}. Bit by bit fell into place as I found her name, and started filling in the details. Eventually the perfect face-claim.I wanted to flesh her out a little but ended up driving my roommate batty with all the random HC and trying to get a feel for her, and so my roomie was like, “Dude, there’s a thing called Tumblr. Go ask them.” {okay so she was a tiny bit nicer}.
And once I got her here and met some really incredible people, they helped shape her and change her until I am pretty sure her foundation is pretty cogent, and flexible amongst various fandoms, even if it turns out her true home was as a fandomless supernatural OC.
