I'm looking to apply varnish to an oil painting I painted few years ago. I've never done this before. What do y'all recommend?

So, it turns out that varnish is quite a serious and immediate health hazard, yet there were no warnings about it either from the seller, or on the bottle. Working with it gave me the worst headache in a year alongside dizziness and nausea.

I was feeling weak and passing out till I threw everything out (mind you, that was like 3 pieces the size of an apple slice)
