POCKETS AND EMBROIDERY: In traditional European folkwear, pockets are decorated with zigzag stitches, strips of colour and shiny beads or buttons to confuse evil spirits and offer protective services. In Romania, the floral patterning around pockets is known as "feresi" (windows) to imitate the decoration placed around windows to protect occupants from demons and illness. The use of the colour red in Eastern European embroidery is associated with magical properties and is effective against witches. For an outfit based off European folkwear I wanted to incorporate all these little elements into the details of the garment.
