5 Favourite Fics I’ve Written

I was tagged by @eshtiel ages ago but it didn’t show up in my feed for some reason? And then @doorsclosingslowly tagged me, too, and then my brain kind of fell out of my ears even more than usual, and then I was out of the country. Anyway. Here goes!

1) My trueform Castiel duo, which I’m counting as one fic because it tells the tale of a single scene from two points-of-view: Between the shadow and the soul and In me all that fire is repeated. It’s where I first felt I was able to get to grips with angelic nature, even if I’m not 100% sold on the writing any more.

2) My weird android fic, the Blade Runner/Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep AU, Sheep May Safely Graze (for which @electroglider made a gorgeous set of covers!), even though it totally got away from me, and submersing myself in the world of PKD is never good for the old sanity. But I liked writing the noir feel, I loved writing all the angels and I LOVED writing Lucifer. Plus I pried a happy ending out of the source material  in an act of sheer defiance.

3) My first long fic, What is Hidden, What is Seen. This one poured out of me, mostly due to anger at the end of season ten.  It has a lot of plot, but I also feel like my characterizations were good. They definitely improved  during the writing. (I had a lot of fun writing Cas and Metatron interacting, for example.) Plus I got to mess around with all kinds of lore and right some wrongs, both of which were very satisfying. 

4) The Name of Things to Come, my 2016 DCBB. Of all the things I’ve written, this one was hardest. It fought me tooth and nail the whole time, and took the most out of me. (Yes, even more than Sheep..., which is saying something.) But I finished it. I did! And I feel like I pulled it off pretty well, all things considered. Plus, I got to work with @varyupon, who did absolutely beautiful and achingly intimate art. 

5) And finally, one which is not Dean/Cas! Or even Supernatural. Dogs and Their Boys, which is a Yuri!!! on Ice fic. My very first! Technically it’s Viktor/Yuri (or Victor/Yuuri, or Viktor/Yuuri or...look, the names are in non-Roman alphabets, there’s a lot of room for spelling variations when you translate). But the women in Yuri’s life seem very important to him and I wanted to explore how they’d interact with Viktor post-episode 7. I liked writing Hiroko, Yuri’s mom. Also, it will apparently give you Dog Feels.

The Name of Things to Come (DCBB 2016)

They lost Cas for the last time somewhere outside of Altoona.

They’re back. All three of them, upright and breathing, under one roof. If things are a little weird as Dean and Castiel try and navigate their relationship, well, Dean’s going to do his best to put things right.

For a little while it seems like things might just work out okay, after all. And then suddenly, Cas disappears. As the Winchesters try and figure out why he went AWOL and how to bring him home, Castiel begins to hunt: both for things that go bump in the night, and for some kind of meaning in his self-imposed exile. What he doesn’t understand is that he won't find what he's looking for until he stops running.
