Review: Vaseline Aloe Soothe Spray
Hello! I’m back—I finally caught up with summer and am starting some reviews… starting with the VoxBox items!
I figured I’d start with my favorite: the Vaseline® Intensive Care™ Aloe Soothe Spray Moisturizer.
Description: A light spray lotion designed to moisturize and dry quickly. It’s supposed to make moisturizing faster. I received this as part of the Sunshine VoxBox through Influenster.
Ingredients List: Water, Isopropyl Myristate, Glycerin, Sorbitan Isostearate, Dimethicone, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Phenoxyethanol, Tapioca Starch, Methylparaben, Fragrance, Carbomer, Stearic Acid, Propylparaben, Xanthan Gum, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Disodium EDTA, Petrolatum, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder.
Notable:
Glycerin and Dimethicone are the star ingredients here—and by star I mean “main moisturizers”, not “secret special active ingredients”. Glycerin is a humectant (attracts moisture) and dimethicone is an emollient (provides protective film to trap moisture). Nothing fancy here: they’re simple but effective. As listed in the advertising, there is also Vaseline Jelly (petrolatum), which traps in moisture, but there isn’t really a large amount.
Though the name says “Aloe”, it’s the last listed ingredient. I don’t particularly care, since aloe irritates me at times, but I wouldn’t expect much soothing aloe power from this product.
While many quick-dry formulas use alcohol, this doesn’t. I’m very happy about that.
The CosDNA analysis comes up pretty clean. Since this is a body product, not a face product, I’m going to ignore the acne triggers, but only two ingredients, Isopropyl Myristate and Polyglyceryl-3-Diisostearate, are significant acne triggers.
As far as irritation, Isopropyl Myristate registers at a 3—which again isn’t a large number.
As far as ingredient safety, the most unsafe items—mostly preservatives—register as mid-level, which I’m not worried about.
Usage: I’ve been using this when I shower (and really whenever I feel like it) for about a month—mostly on my legs. I have fairly dry skin, so moisturizing is important… but I’m not consistent. Because lotion is sticky and annoying.
Experience:
I really like this product. It delivers what it advertises—quick, light moisture for dry skin. It’s much easier to apply and rub in than my normal lotion. It dries just as fast on wet or dry skin, which I love… I hate having to wait for lotion to dry before getting dressed. It’s also a lot easier to apply to my back and shoulders than normal lotion—two places I typically don’t moisturize.
Packaging:
It comes in a hairspray-like bottle with a nifty cap—it twists one way to open the nozzle, and the other way to close it… which makes it super easy to pack. I twisted the cap shut and took it on a trip without putting it in a plastic bag, and it was totally fine—it didn’t go off at all.
Open!
Closed!
Texture:
The spray is light and fine—very misty—and sprays on clear. It sometimes has little bubbles from the spraying action. It takes two to three rubs to soak in, and at that point it feels mostly dry with a little bit of slip due to the dimethicone. Once fully dry, there’s still a little bit of slip, but no stickiness.
Scent:
While it says “Aloe”, this really reminds me of Bath and Body Works’ cucumber lotions… which was one of my favorite teenage scents. However, I’d rather it not have fragrance because I prefer to use only one scented item per day… I don’t like having clashing scents due to different products. But it’s not a bad scent—light and fresh.
Skin reaction:
I have no problems with this spray, and no notable improvements either—just plain old moisture. And really that’s all I need, so I’m quite happy with it.
Rating: 4/5. One word description: Convenient!
I’d definitely repurchase, if only for the ease of use—but I’d look for a scentless version.
Where to purchase: They’re available at Target, CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, and various grocery stores. You can also find them online at Target.
Until next time!
Disclaimer: I received this free from Influenster for an honest review.
Testing Some Amazing Products!
I am so excited to have received my very first Vox Box from Influenster! I received various complementary products to test and I was giddy with delight when I opened that box!!
Included in this “Sunshine Box” was a can of Vaseline Intensive Care Spray Moisturizer. I have seen the commercials and was intrigued since I’ve only used pump lotions before. Spraying it on after my shower this morning was so refreshing! And it moisturizes my skin so well, but doesn’t leave a heavy or greasy feeling. Truly spectacular!
Also, it was a lot less time consuming than the usual pump lotion. Just spray, it absorbs in seconds and GO! This is definitely a future purchase for me!
