Moodboard of Vasilii.
What if Sasha (the Denali's mother) never created an immortal child?
Who knows.
What we know of this part mainly comes from the guide. I'm not sure if the Denali turned to sleeping with humans in their grief over Sasha/or if Sasha approved of this or participated herself before her sad death.
It also depends on whether Sasha would put her foot down over Tanya starving herself after trying not to kill her lovers in bed.
What I will say is that what we do learn from canon and see is that Sasha had started down this road long before she made Vasilii. She picked Tanya, Kate, and Irina all because they looked as if they could be her daughters. Sasha really really really wanted a child and it felt like every vampire she turned was an attempt to stop herself from making an immortal child by having adult/teen daughters.
Then she gave into temptation.
What I'm getting at is it feels almost as if Vasilii was going to happen sooner or later. It was just a matter of when.
I love the fact that both of the Gate 10 bears (Science Bear and Dapper Bear) are canonically short
Lestat, throwing his iPhone at Louis: "Look, it's you when I'm gone."
Louis, throwing it back: "Look, it's me when you try me."
What is your head canon on why The Denali’s mother turned an immortal child
Honestly, I don't have much of one.
We know that Sasha turned her great-nice Tanya to have herself a daughter, and then she sought out beautiful women similar to Tanya so Tanya would have sisters.
The woman wanted family.
The woman also knew what a mistake she'd made, and she knew the Volturi would find out sooner or later, or she wouldn't have put in the effort to protect Tanya, Irina, and Kate that she did.
My guess is, she saw Vassilii, he looked like a child version of Tanya, and maybe he was sick or impoverished - something to make that maternal instinct really kick. An impulse, terrible, decision was made.
After that, her life must have ben anxious hell as she knew the Volturi would come knocking soon but she didn't have it in her to kill the child herself. So, she kept the family going for as long as she could, apart but equally loved, not unlike a man who has two wives who don't know about each other.
I suspect this double life brought on her end, or hastened it any rate (Vasilii wouldn't have stayed secret forever). The Volturi would not have come knocking if the child didn't make its existence known in the way that immortal children make themselves known. Sasha must have been away for long stretches at a time so as to be with her daughters and keep them in the dark, and there would be no one in place to keep Vassilii from losing control.
Was lying awake for two hours last night trying to come up with a headcanon re: how Sasha was able to keep Vasilii a secret from Tanya, Kate, and Irina. Especially if they were apprehended right along with her, if I remember correctly?
