Gun Control: Red Flag Laws
Okay, so listen up gun nuts:
I’ve worked film festival for years and this new one I’m on is holding a “Pop-Up” festival.
(It’s called a “Pop-Up” because there’s very little notice and it’s just for a couple of hours)
WE TAKE ONLINE CONTENT, such as Youtube videos.
Personally, I’d like to see a video from a gun nutter perspective. There’s nothing guaranteed here, especially if we received a number of videos on the same topic but, if you’ve made any gun nutter videos or can make one there’s a good chance we’ll screen it.
(You do NOT need to be in the Boston area to submit. You don’t need to attend)
Preferably something educational. Preferably something that deals with the responsibility of gun ownership. The very last thing anyone is interested in is your UniBomber style rant about your “Con s’Tutional Ritz.”
Something about gun safety though, what to do if you’re pulled over (legally) carrying, what happens next if you actually have to shoot someone... all that stuff is perfect, but not necessary. Other than that...
Can’t say, really. It’s all highly subjective, plus we’re probably a little more nuanced than most folks, watching films. We look at technical aspects, yes, but a solid screen presence can trump that... writing... delivery... even length! (needs to be short) So there’s no way for me to tell you what to do in order to guarantee that we’d screen your work.
NOTE: Hate & the promotion of any kind of violence would exclude you. Definitely. Inaccuracies will probably keep you out as well... not that we fact check other peoples claims. But if something seems wrong to us, and we do fact check it, inaccuracies are bad.
You also have to own the content! You can’t submit anyone else’s gun nutter video. Plus, when I say “Content” I include any music, B-Roll, etc that might be subject to copyright. I don’t care how great your video is, if you threw your favorite AC/DC song on the soundtrack then we can’t accept it.
For our normal festival we charge a $30 submission fee, which is probably average for festivals, and that only guarantees you consideration, not entry. So, seeing how I wouldn’t even be charging you, think of this “Pop-Up” as a practice round, some training for the real thing.
Audience? Probably not big. We sold out on our last screening around this time, but that was on a weekend, and this one will take place on a Wednesday. But, again, what do you expect for free? So shut up already and submit something.
