Luke woke to find himself unmoving, stiff and stuck in place. Not still because there was no place to move, nowhere to twist and turn, no space to shift, but still as though his very bones were growing through his skin, out of his fingertips, his knees, his spine, and they were encasing him. As though the bones were meeting pillowy walls, and at the contact, melding with them, merging with them, Luke could not physically wrench himself in any direction, bar thrashing from side to side his head in fear and bewilderment.

Luke sighed, his heart caving in on itself. Jewels of sharp joy pierced his chest through his skin, and jealousy as soft and silent as feathers fell from his body onto the cold, hard floor. "I remember what you said last night. You were envious of how I interact with Grogu, and afraid that it would take him from you." Stunned and embarrassed, the Mandalorian froze. "I..." he began, and then he ended. "I know it's difficult for you to understand, so I thought I would explain in a way that utilises more than just meer understanding. Love is more than what can be understood, of course. It can be so much, so powerful, so hurtful and dark." "What are you saying?" Luke inhaled, closing his eyes and counting his breaths for a moment. "Grogu loves you beyond definable measure. Grogu would tear down planets for you. You are his father..." The child squeaked, excited, every time his name was mentioned, and Din tightened his grip around him. "Without you, there is only fear within him. I couldn't take him as a student, and cast you away. The two conditions are not compatible." Luke sighed. "He may love me, but he loves you. You are as stable and constant in his life as the stars, and every thought he has revolves about you: the centre of his whole world."
