i was tagged by @thewardenisonthecase & @gaeldricge - thank you for tagging me! i haven't worked on my wip in the longest time bc ive been completely writer's blocked but this was the last line i worked on 2+ months ago lmao

The path was merciless; no matter where he looked there were limbs, decayed by Taint or frostbite, stuck out as if begging for help, the only markers left of bodies left to rot, indistinguishable from the dead trees spread out around them like Tainted veins.

Something almost-familiar feathers along Illario’s expression. Another memory lost to the Ossuary, he thinks, angrily.

Pale eyes still on him, pale blonde brows drawn upwards in the faintest surprise. Their vitaar – whorls of deep purple and gold – curve with their visible confusion. They blink once, slowly. “Every kiss is different,” they say.

I guess, said Bellara. Yeah. But the story is really about loneliness.

“Not all jobs are paid. We all know that, no one would have held it against them for working with Varric,” Teia snaps back. “No one’s paying us to defend Treviso either–”

“Everyone else in the world can call me that, but not you.”

Who do you go to? When it's hot and you're tired, but you can't touch anything. You're hungry, but you don't want to eat. You cut up a peach, but it's sour and crunchy. You meet with a friend to work on an assignment, but there's an issue with the water main by your local cafe, so your neighbors can't make your iced coffee. The sun is so white that the sweat glints on your arms, and it blinds you.

When you're back in the shade of your kitchen, you notice someone has set up a camera on the counter. Some timelapse filming project or other. You feel watched, but you feel watched all the time, so you eventually forget it's there. You stand in the frame and you turn on your phone and refresh your messages. Later, once the filming equipment is gone, everyone will be nice to you, and you will wonder if they watched their footage and saw you checking your phone and deleting your texts to someone.

You want to brave the hot air outside again, because you can't be stuck in here with your sad unfinished peach and the camera watching you be lonely. One of your friends is too far for you to meet her. Another is giving a singing performance in a fancy part of town where the subway doesn't run. You stop crying just long enough to get a ticket and head out. Who do you talk to? The people waiting on the street as the bus runs late? The driver asking everyone to pack together? The man sitting behind you, who can see the sweat trickling down your leg?

The heat has made you woozy, so you get off at the wrong stop and you haul yourself ten blocks west to get to your friend's concert. At one point, you start running, and it kind of feels nice. You feel so hot that you circle back around to feeling pleasantly warm, but you have to stop because your lungs are pinching. You're only ten minutes late. The water in your bottle is sweat-warm. You sit at the back of the venue, and you only cry a little bit. Your friend looks beautiful and happy, and she pulls you out of your head. She's happy you're there, and she wants you to stay and have dinner with her. You have a long way to go to get back home.

I FINALLY GOT A NEW CHAPTER UP

just my personal opinion but i think more fantasy media (inc fic) should stop describing city night skies (pitch black, a star or two glinting in the distant distance) and instead be describing skies without light pollution. like metaphorically, im invested in moving away from dark = bad, light = good for obvious reasons, and i think one way to do that is to actively examine the metaphors we're using and how we're using them. and often, in reality, without light pollution, the night sky is bright and beautiful and mysterious and cosmic and awe-inspiring - not distant, and remote, and untouchable, and void like. and i, personally, love using this as a metaphor for a person, or a situation, or a developing relationship, and it provides so much depth and options compared to a city night sky which is probably what we're imagining, since that's all that most of us really know

a very tiny little snippet of the next chapter of my fic under the cut!!! it's super tiny because im reworking the chapter still so i dont wanna put out anything im not sure will stay in but... here u go!!! this chapter should be out uhhhh at some point over the next week or two lmao im super slow at writing and i dont wanna create unnecessary pressure for myself ;~;

anyway, basically this scene exists partially because i really wanted to have a moment to discuss this in-game dialogue... he says the most unhinged things abt the maker and i think we should address that (there's something so wrong with him)

six chapters in and its like 28k words, but literally i'm so happy to finally see it come together. i've still got the second half or so of the fic left to write, and updates are sporadic, but i'm really happy with how it's coming along and i actually can see the end of the fic now!!!

So....

I have a series that's currently about 1/5th written, called "When all my tears have run dry, will you hold me once more?".

But personally, I like to refer to it as 'Tearless Scara'.

and basically, the idea behind it is as such:

Scara didn't cry.

and Ei never realised that he was a person.
