They kiss. It's light at first, a taste, before she digs in with more fervor. A familiar rhythm, but an old one. It's been a while since Luz bothered testing the waters like that; it's usually a quick peck or a makeout, not both. And she had been weirdly forgetful this afternoon. Amity breaks the kiss, but keeps their foreheads pressed together. She hums to buy time, to catch her breath, steeling herself for a bit of subterfuge. Her eyes flick deliberately to the door, then back to her partner. Either she starts a conversation about getting caught in the act, something to distract her listless lover from whatever problem she's evading this time, or she catches someone else in a different act altogether. "Vee?" The girl in her arms stiffens, a shaky smile stretching under a sweaty brow. Of course. "Whaaat about …her?" she tries. Amity sighs, and pulls them both down, laying together across her cot. She's tempted to end their embrace, but doesn't want to leave her feeling too exposed; she decides to keep hold of her hand as they roll apart. Once they're settled, she gets to the point. "Why are you pretending to be Luz and flirting with me?" Her smile crumbles, and with it, her disguise. Brown hair melts into blonde and blue, and Vee decompresses into the fuller shape of her own ostensibly-human form. "What gave me away?" "So you can play the part better next time?" "No, I mean—" "Then why, Vee?" Her lip wobbles, and she takes a deep breath. Any attempts at eye contact are lost on her. "I was just... curious, I guess." "About your performance?" "No— I mean, that too— but really, just... you guys. All your hugging, kissing, that stuff. You especially remind me a lot of… a friend of mine. From when I was still 'Luz'." "And that made you want to kiss me?" "I… never really got to do that stuff with them. I miss them. But you're right here, all the time. And now Luz is spending so much time away working on the portal... I guess I just thought I could save us both the grief, for a little while. Sorry." Amity sighs. Then sighs again. It was selfish, but also a little sweet. A bad idea with decent intentions. A familiar rhythm, but an old one. With a third and final sigh, she rolls halfway onto Vee, and gives her a squeeze. "...It was the way you kissed me, like you weren't sure if I wanted it. And you 'forgot' tonight's movie night, that Luz has been planning all week." She loosens the hug and looks Vee in the eyes. "Don't worry about us. But if you need the company, the couch has more than enough room for three." She's smiling again, barely, a nervous slant to her mouth. "...But, wasn't that supposed to be a date?" Amity tips her face away, not as bold as she'd like to let on. "It still can be. Or not. We'll see." It must take a while for her meaning to set in, before Vee nods a little. "...Okay, sure. We'll see."

i kinda wanna make a larger fic out of this, include some stuff set before and after this snippet, maybe 3–5k words total. still, probably a oneshot, since it doesnt quite fit in with my big lumiveeshalow plans, vague though they are.

and i have ideas about a short comic of lumivee getting settled on the couch for the movie night alluded to here. just a smidgen of sibling hijinks. a tad. a wee bit.

(and some compersion for luz, as amity pulls vee into the cuddle puddle. that GOOD good shit.)
