would really like any of my fellow vegan moots to chime in on falconry and the ethics of it?
right off the bat it gives me the major ick and everything ive seen about it looks like it's just a 'teehee look at me im so cool and badass because of this animal i associate myself with' horse rider parallel. or like those guys who get wolf dogs because, again, they think it makes them badass to own an animal like this.
but i was wondering if there actually IS any benefit, and like. actual benefit. not coming from the falconers mouth of how it's so stimulating and enriching for the bird and how it helps them self regulate or bullshit like that. as if being forced to fly with your eyes covered and having your legs shackled together and tied to a fucking ape is so enriching.
the only time i can see it being somewhat beneficial to the bird themselves would be in a rehab scenario where the bird was injured and through no other means could they learn to fly and be in the wild. but even then i cannot see how them interacting with humans and getting used to a human holding and feeding them qualifies them for rehab literally at all. thats like. animal rehab no no #1. dont let them get used to human interaction and dont have them associate humans with food and safety.
