The Motherland Chapters: Siquijor. The best part of my time on this island were the friends I met. The music, the laughs, the chilling. I really appreciated it all. I’ll remember all the memories from the local party you first took me to on our first night (and I swore off Tanduay the next morning forever and ever), to snorkeling at the sanctuary, to dancing to reggae, to our morning and evening gatherings at the back hut talking about anything and everything. It was like a little family. . . Loud shout-out to Benson and his crew at Cecilia’s Restaurant and Guesthouse. If you’re ever visiting, they have great food, awesome live reggae music every week, and a down-to-earth atmosphere. So much gratitude to @ezylabeth for our synchronous meeting at the foot of Mount Shasta when we introduced ourselves and you introduced me to an island and to people I was destined to meet. Thank you, dear messenger. . . Towards the end of my stay I felt so used to living there, seeing the same faces in the morning, hanging at the hut talking life and being present. I was sad to leave. I didn’t want to leave. Interestingly enough, the day before my flight out, the typhoon came back 🙃 shutting down the ferries, which were planning not to run for a whole week. Although I was prepared to extend my stay, I didn’t want to miss my first Christmas in 6 years with my family of origin. That night I gathered as much prayers I could from my community, cooked my last meal and toasted my glass to my last night. I remember Katrina laughing at me coz I really did act like I was going to make it out the next day. “Last day ‘ko” I kept saying. I was half joking, but fully hoping 😉 . .
