Rick Harrison’s Pawn Plaza might be in serious trouble...
We’ve been hearing rumors for weeks about big problems at the new Pawn Stars-owned shopping center in Downtown Las Vegas.
Now we found out that one of its best restaurants -- Smoke's Poutinerie -- has closed.
And a struggling tenant just sent this troubling email:
So pretty much the basic story is this: all the tenants were told the plaza had 4000 customers average daily (numbers were from the pawn shop). We were further told that advertising and events were gonna take place. None of this ever happened, as well as the plaza opening months later than is was originally supposed to.
After our October Grand Opening we had a very slow start. So slow that 2 months in we were already talking about out first rent abatement... the first abatement ran up to but not including may of 2016. June of 2016 a second rent abatement was enacted, but this time it was higher than the first time regardless of the fact the nothing was ever done to rectify the problem for the need of the first rent abatement.. which had led to where we are now.
5 tenants who have picked up and left because of the lack of customers, and lack of support from our land lord. Furthermore nothing is done to advertise for the plaza. In the pawn shop there is a sign for a selfie station at Pawn Plaza. A selfie station was never set up, so when people come over to find one they are upset and frustrated that they were duped.
Furthermore Rick schedules bar-tending events for Friday and Saturday where Rick is the bartender. Most of the time he just doesn't show up for the scheduled events further hurting the reputation of the plaza.
At this point I'm not really sure what is going on. I've asked several times for a tenant meeting only to be responded to by "Rick is willing to meet and talk about the lease". That to me is admitting defeat. Not sure what a tenant meeting is going to do at this point seeing as we have already lost; Smokes Poutine, the pizzeria, the coffee and donut shop, Vegas Flip Flop, and the wedding vows place has ceased operations but is still paying rent out of fear of repercussions from Rick.
I may have missed some stuff, it's been a long road.

We’re big fan of Pawn Stars (especially that badass Chumlee!) but we’re also big supporters of Local Vegas business owners.
Our hope is that these serious problems can be fixed in time to keep the Pawn Plaza tenants in business and keep things rolling at one of DTLV’s most unique shopping centers!
