The Core Themes of Dragon Ball - Kirblog 1/7/17

Happy #DragonBallDay, everybody! Tonight is the premiere of Dragon Ball Super's English dub, as well as the continuation of Dragon Ball Z Kai with "The Final Chapters" on Toonami! To celebrate, I'm joined yet again by Mike "VegettoEX" of DBZ fansite Kanzenshuu to talk about the core themes of Dragon Ball's story and characters. In this hour and a half-long discussion, Mike and I discuss the intricacies of what makes this classic story so iconic and long-lasting with each generation. With the loftier, more-upbeat concepts such as pushing one's limits, raising all tides and working together...as well as the harsher realities of the hubris of DBZ's many heroes and villains, and the second chances given to nearly all of them...there's a WHOLE lot to analyze from this series that was initially intended just for young boys! Beyond just the cool fight scenes and hours of screaming, there's much more to Dragon Ball that has made it last this long and made it resonate with so many people. The "Goku Black Saga" of DBSuper - Kirblog 1/3/17

Happy New Year and Happy Dragon Ball Week! The "Beerus Saga" of DBSuper - Kirblog 11/7/15

Another Dragon Ball Kirblog!? Of course. Those of you who have been following "Dragon Ball Super" know that for the past few months, an adaptation of the recent DBZ movie "battle of gods" has been taking place, as Goku becomes a Super Saiyan God to fight back against Beerus, the god of destruction. As we are about to enter an adaptation of the newer "resurrection F" movie as well, I'm joined by Mike "VegettoEX" Lebrie from Kanzenshuu to discuss the past 15 episodes of the franchise's new series. Is it better or worse then the movie? Has the new material but enough to hold our interest? How do we think the new show might fair in the US when and if we eventually get it? SUPER HYPED for Dragon Ball S - Kirblog 4/30/15

So as I'm SURE you've all heard by now, on the morning of April 28th it was announced that we're getting a new Dragon Ball animated series for the first time in almost 20 years. Akira Toriyama is attached to write the story of "Dragon Ball Super" and this new series will take place sometime after the defeat of Majin Buu. Masako Nozawa is set to return as the voice of Goku, Gohan & Goten, the series director and two co-producers have been provided and it will be airing this summer after Dragon Ball Kai: The Final Chapters finishes up in Japan. Right now, that's LITERALLY all wee know.

Of course, with the 7-episode DBZ Kirblog series I recently did leading up to the release of the new movie Resurrection 'F', I was immediately asked by a ton of people to talk about Dragon Ball Super. I'm joined by Mike "VegettoEX" LaBrie from DBZ fansite Kanzenshuu.com and Scott "Kaiserneko" Frerichs of Team Four Star & Dragon Ball Z: Abridged...and together we speak about our thoughts and reactions to what this new installment to the Dragon Ball world could be. Early DB Dayz - Kirblog 3/21/15

In celebration of getting to go see the US premiere of the movie  "Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F" on April 11th, I've decided to create 7 DBZ-related Kirblogs leading up to the screening!

On this one, the first of the seven, Chris is joined by Mike "VegettoEX" LaBrie from the illustrious DBZ website "Kanzenshuu" on what is now officially the /longest/ and most in-depth Kirblog yet! Chris and Mike talk about the early days of DBZ fandom in the 90's and early 2000's, growing up with the show airing in syndication on American television, finding fansub VHS tapes of the then-mysterious Japanese version, the show moving to Cartoon Network...all the way up to how massive Dragon Ball has become across the country!
