Since I've been thinking about the upcoming Dragon Ball Super: Beerus thing coming in Fall, and how it's retelling the events of Battle of Gods and Resurrection F for a third time after the original Dragon Ball Super Anime, and more specifically thinking about Frieza and his Golden Transformation.
And I've come to a very... Interesting conclusion regarding the Transformation after considering a few details.
(Spoilers regarding Frieza for the Dragon Ball Super Manga as of the Granola Arc, but it's been almost 4 Years since then so... I'm not gonna feel TOO BAD talking about it. Regardless, you've been warned)
It's a transformation Frieza specifically stated he created himself. Picking the golden color himself, supposedly to mock Super Saiyan.
During the events of Resurrection F/Golden Frieza Saga, prior to his second death, the form had a massive stamina issue during prolonged use since Frieza immediately headed to Earth in order to have his revenge, instead of attempting to first master the form after unlocking it.
Frieza did manage to master the transformation in Hell and effectively render the stamina issue null, mastering his energy control over the form to maintain it more or less indefinitely. Not unlike how Goku and Gohan trained in the Time Chamber and decided the way forward was to make Super Saiyan more efficient and easier to maintain it as easily as their Base Form.
Even beyond the mastered form of Golden, it has a further evolution in the form of Black Frieza. Not unlike how Super Saiyan has higher Grades and versions of the form itself like Super Saiyan 2, 3, & 4 (as of Daima making SSJ4 a form past SSJ3).
Back in Resurrection F/Golden Frieza Saga, he went from his Final Form/Base Form matching Goku using the power of Super Saiyan God in his own Base Form (Unofficially known as Saiyan beyond God/God-Like Saiyan) to then match Super Saiyan Blue, the Super Saiyan form stacked on top of Super Saiyan God. Implying it has a potentially similar multiplier to regular Super Saiyan.
My conclusion?
He was almost nearly killed by Goku on Namek and was actually killed by Future Trunks on Earth later on. Both of whom did so as Super Saiyans.
Golden Frieza was literally just Frieza's attempt to make his own Super Saiyan form, down to the 50x multiplier and even mirroring the problem of how draining Super Saiyan was prior before it was mastered to remove that flaw by Goku and Gohan training in the Time Chamber (and also mirrors the flaws of Super Saiyan 3 especially during the Buu Saga)
Even if it was supposedly created to mock the Saiyan transformation, it is too close to Super Saiyan in several aspects to make one wonder if Frieza secretly made it not out of hatred or mockery but of envy and desperation to have for himself even a pale imitation of the legendary power that defeated him not once but twice.
Am I overthinking this? Probably, but I think it's an interesting thought route to go down that, even if probably completely unintentional, offers interesting insight into Frieza as a character and his Golden Transformation and his history with the Super Saiyan legend regarding Son Goku.
...Or maybe I'm talking out of my ass with speculation and hyperfixation on a few details.
Thinking about Res F and how 18 offered to come to the battlefield with Krillin, but he turned her down because he wanted her and Marron to stay safe, and then it turns out the only safe place to be that day was the battlefield, and now suddenly his wife and child are dead, and he absolutely shouldn't blame himself for that, but he can't help it, he's Krillin
If Shisami can run around in a thong that hardly covers his ass let alone with his crotch, Peppah can wear a body suit showing off her hips. I love gender equality!
I hate to compare myself to Frieza but I got to admit that it's too damn easy to relate to him in Resurrection F. I'll grind any skill in the hyperbolic time chamber until the point of which I can do it passably and then instantly rush to do it in a live setting. Mastery? Practice? What are they? Never heard of them.
Getting a skill is a binary thing and once you have it down you don't have to worry about improving or refining. It's one and done, baby. Get that shit and go.
