Before Vel got used to the fact that he’s trapped on Nol via magic, he did try to run away. It didn’t end well, and the people of Birche didn’t take kindly to the attempt, for fear of Aincel’s wrath.

Vel has the ability to stop time. Given he’s kept it secret, no one knows that he can. Though how he could have obtained a power so strong is another riddle unto itself.
