there’s something so very satisfying about watching even the most condescending of them lose their cool over a simple mundane trick. it keeps magnus warm on cold winter nights.

(one of the reasons maryse hates magnus so much in the beginning is because she fell for one of his magic tricks and tried to prosecute him before the clave, and then magnus showed up and proved he didn’t actually use magic against her at all. it was a little humiliating.

years later, once magnus is part of the family, she can appreciate the humor and cleverness in his approach)

(tho I cannot relate, I’m fine with being a goblin in the semi-public of a video chat. It’s amazing how often the whoops forgot to shower today used to line up with my online RPG night, and I still turned on that webcam every week 🤣)

Thanks for answering! I really loved some of the plot arcs, but some that I liked just seemed to get dropped? Like, Zatanna could have been such a fun character to bring in more of, but she only had a handful of appearances?

so clearly, yeah, there should have been more of her!

(The show didn’t seem to ever have a plan, tbqh, and for long-form storytelling, even the relatively stand-alone kind you get in an episodic TV show, is a really glaring flaw.)

I have a lot of issues watching other writers continue to post things, and finish things, and get a little hung up on it, so it’s nice to be reminded that I do actually write quite a bit, even if I can’t maintain anything like a schedule 😅

Yep, someone made a “hit list” (their words, not mine) and posted it on twitter.  Most of the names on there are writers in the fandom with a few people the list maker had a grudge against as well.

I think you make a good point here (and I ignore the canon timeline whenever possible, lmao) - but I also have a headcanon for Alec's promotion. The attack on Alicante was pretty devastating, right? Maybe it killed a whole bunch of senior, more experienced Shadowhunters - which accelerates the promotion of more minor players like Alec. (Sort of like 'Designated Survivor', or 'Johnny English' in a more lighthearted example, aha.)

oh yeah, you can definitely make it work, and that makes a lot of sense. they’re desperate for his reputation but also they just need a god-damned warm body to put in the chair

I just... don’t want to make it work? 🤷‍♀️ (New York City is their home, at least in my head. I refuse to move them too soon.) *laughs*

oh, interesting! no, there wasn't supposed to be a part two, character limit. I'm glad that our analysises match! I'm trying to write Robert accurately and that's difficult when he's so often portrayed as an outright villain.

He is, in the show, useless, but not evil. Banal, perhaps?

It’s pretty fun to write him as evil, but that is, generally, kind of a cop-out. (But if your story’s about something else, he’s a handy villain? No one likes him enough to complain or refuse to buy into the premise. Like I would probably have an easier time writing a Jonathan redemption fic than a Robert redemption fic, and Jonathan actively tried to destroy the world. 😅)

#where's the au where magnus spends all of s1 wooing alec with increasingly ridiculous compliments /// I randomly get emotional over bb Alec getting showered with compliments. Without the drama of Making Lightwoods Great Again choking him. Just bb Alec getting complimented on something else than his shadowhunting/report writing. Magnus being ridiculous as always but having the time to woo Alec properly, like the salty challenge he is. I just like the word wooing.

i have two very different but equally strong reactions:

1. yessss i am so here for magnus bringing down the remainder of alec’s walls via compliments. 

(i say the remainder because the first time alec laid eyes on magnus, a man he only knew as a stranger and a warlock, magnus already managed to slip through the cracks and worm his way into alec’s affections in a way no one else had ever done before. in a way alec didn’t even think was possible until he was looking into the amused eyes of magnus bane and never wanted to stop)

2. you mentioned choking alec and i know you didn’t mean it in that way but also i am Here For It. magnus bane and his big biceps are too
