It was just a regular day at the coast of Jietian. The sea breeze was blowing hard, the smell of the sea was plentiful. The waves softly rocked the fishing boat. You were the only human on this vessel, or well, the only "pure" human. The other is a descendant of a crew that had long crashed on this Earth-like planet. The rest were the native race of this region. They call themselves the Venari. The best way I can describe them as is bipedal deer with 1 antler and cloud-like fur.
The venari seem to be very into trade as far as I can tell. These ones in this region seem to be into fishing. The boat wasn't too large, just big enough to get a good enough catch out at sea. I can't say I don't miss the sea back at Earth. It was both mesmerizingly beautiful yet so deeply terrifying.
The bell rings. It seems the net has finally caught something. The boat rocks a bit, the metal groaning under the effort. The fishermen all run to see the catch. They all grab unto the rope holding the net, each pulling back with all of their might. I can tell this is not one of their usual catches. It is much heavier than usual. By this point, they would have been able to pull the net back on the ship, yet it is still not even halway there. This must be their lucky day, huh? I ran towards them and grab ahold of the net, pulling it as well. We all heave and ho, the ship groaning and creaking. Finally, with one final pull, we were able to get the net on ship, yet we were not prepared for what we caught.
There, trapped in the net, was the usual fish, yes, but something much bigger. I had not seen this species during my time here. It looks like if a bear had bug-like features and was slightly bigger. It surpringly did not care about any of us or the fact that it was trapped, being more preocupied with eating the fish flopping around.
I looked back at the group of fishermen. They all seem to have various expressions of shock, concern, and fear painted in their faces. They seem to know exactly what this thing is and did not want to deal with it. The fisherman huddled up together, probably trying to figure out what to do. The other human informs me of this bear-like creature. Bugbear is what they called them, just as intelligent as us and incredibly dangerous. Appersntly the only reason that it has not teared us apart is because this one is a teenager??? It just kept on happily munching on the fish, having at least 2 in their 4 hands? Paws? It clicked its mandibles contendly, before standing up, the weight of the net not seemimg to bother it. It tore it open like it was a bag of candy before happily diving back into the frigid waters.
If that is a teenager, I do NOT want to meet an adult.
