“why do you still work for her?” eddie asked, pacing around the kitchen.
“it’s not the same. i’m not a spy anymore, we’re on a team—“
“you are still working for her,” eddie interrupted, his eyes meeting kathryn's.
kathryn was silent for a moment. she glanced out the window, hearing eddie mumble something to venom that she didn’t care to ask about.
“we own her now,” kathryn finally replied. “it’s different.”
“and what happens if they find out about your past? what happens if i am asked to write about you for my show?” eddie stopped pacing, one hand running through his hair.
she paused, looking over at him.
“you’re not going to write about me,” it was more of a plea than a statement.
eddie looked at kathryn, a hint of guilt in his blue eyes.
“eddie?”
“you know i’ve been writing about valentina so that she can be taken down. you and your friends— you’re all involved. it’s bound that you are at least mentioned,” eddie sat down on the couch with a heavy sigh.
kathryn couldn’t believe what she was hearing. she didn’t want to be on the news; she had hated walking out and being forced by valentina to join the avengers.
“when you publish this, people will start looking into me. they’ll realize i am a mutant, the world isn’t ready for that right now,” kathryn looked at eddie.
“maybe you’re not the right person to say what the world is or isn’t ready for.”
“i can’t remember that,” eddie huffed, his hand running through his hair exasperatedly.
“we both know the cause of your memory issues—”
“don’t say it,” eddie interrupted her. “i- i can’t just leave him. he needs me, kate. he needs me just as much as i need him.”
“he’s giving you false memories and even taking some altogether,” kathryn replied, trying so hard to remain calm. “he’s killing you, eddie.”
“what am i supposed to do?” eddie looked at her, his blue eyes glassy with unshed tears. “what if we do get him out and my memory gets worse, hm? what if he’s the only thing that can keep it together after all this?”
the room fell silent. eddie ceased his pacing, and kathryn had stiffened.
“are you not scared?” kathryn asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
“of course i’m fucking scared,” eddie replied after a beat. “he can change memories so far back… my childhood…”
he paused.
“…even of you.”

side note: i rewatched little fish (saddest movie ever) and then started rereading some comics. i remembered eddie literally has his memories altered/erased by venom... not a happy day today.
