Vera Nilsson (June 1, 1888 - 1979) was a Swedish painter, who is known for many portraits of her daughter in childhood. She also was a painter with a social conscience, and often painted the down-and-out aspects of modern society.
In this canvas, Nilsson depicts her daughter Ginga being fitted for her confirmation dress by the seamstress Miss Gustavsson who lived in the same building as the Nilssons.
