Verdin Auriparus flaviceps
2/16/2024 Saguaro National Park, Arizona
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, CA — March 2026
Some more desert bird buddies. The little male Costa's Hummingbird was a very cooperative little photo subject, and what a pretty little guy. And I caught a female of the same doing a very silly scritch.
Taking a picture of a verdin (Auriparus flaviceps) when a Curve-billed Thrasher (Toxostoma curvirostre) also wanted in on the action.
Verdin feeding it's baby with some hummingbird nectar (sugar water) from my feeder. There are three birds in this family and they share the feeder with two species of Hummingbird and a family of House Finches.
Verdin (Auriparus flaviceps), family Remizidae, order Passeriformes, Brooks County, TX, USA
