#XXXIII
*at Disneyland on the teacup ride*
Jaina and Vereesa: *spinning calmly while talking*
Alleria and Tyrande: *flying pass them, spinning as fast as they can, screaming*
Sylvanas and Anduin: *Sylvanas maneuvers and drifts the shit out of the teacup, Anduin already passed out*
Vereesa: This is all thats left of our homeland after the Scourge attacked.
Alleria: Thats so sad, Sylvanas play Lament of the Highborne.
So Auntie Asy, got any deep philosophical thoughts on the Windrunner sisters and their less than great relationship with each other?
I was actually reflecting on what a tragedy their falling out is (after having read the ‘Three Sisters’ comic). There is SO MUCH fodder for analysis in it.
What we can really surmise from it is that Sylvanas plans to betray her sisters (not sure if burning the world tree is what she meant, either). But it’s very, very clear she’s not betraying them because she doesn’t love them. She loves them very much and is full of pain and anger about the perceived abandonment by them, and her desire to have them serve her (which is actually says, verbatim):
is actually because she can’t bare to be apart from them and is desperate to never have to endure being hurt by them again. When Vereesa refused to accompany Sylvanas in Undercity, Sylvanas was so hurt and upset that Veressa didn’t come join her and, not only that, that Vereesa answered by letter rather than in person, that she had this rage-tantrum and went on a small animal killing rampage in Tirisfal Glades.
Of course, forcing her sisters to join her and forcing them to serve her isn’t going to give her what she needs emotionally (which is their love and approval), but it’s interesting she sees forcing them to submit as something that will satisfy her. It won’t.
Sylvanas is someone who lashes out and hurts people when she’s in pain. She’s very reactionary, where her sisters are concerned she’s very much prone to emotional outbursts. I hope in the coming Battle for Azeroth campaign, we will see more of Sylvanas’ desperate and complicated love for her sisters.
Here are some of my predictions about what could happen with the Windrunner sisters:
Alleria says her love for her son is what anchors her to reality and stops her being consumed by the void. If Sylvanas really wanted Alleria to cross over to Horde, she may have Alleria’s son killed and then potentially raise him as undead. She’s been crazy enough to consider that. It would satisfy her desire to hurt Alleria for hurting her (by killing her son), as well as forcing Alleria to join the Horde to be with her son, and risk being swallowed by the void.
Of course, what Sylvanas doesn’t understand is that Alleria would probably sooner give in to the void and murder Sylvanas rather than join the Horde, and her sister killing her son would definitely be that tipping point.
With Vereesa, it’s harder to tell. Vereesa seems to still love Sylvanas at the end of this comic. I haven’t seen any sign of Vereesa in Battle for Azeroth yet, so I don’t know what’s going on with her. She’s very good friends with Jaina Proudmoore so I would have thought she’d shown up at some point, as she’s a very prominent character in both Sylvanas’ and Jaina’s personal stories.
ETA: Someone said that it was Vereesa who was with Jaina when they confronted Sylvanas with King Anduin in this trailer, but that’s actually Alleria.
So yes, it’s odd Vereesa is absent because based on her lore she should be very, very involved with the two main narrative protagonists. Hopefully she’ll show up soon!
