THE VERGER DINING ROOM is the dining room of the Parkwood Estate in Oshawa, Ontario. Built in 1916 by the architectural firm Pearson & Darling for Canadian auto baron Samuel McLaughlin. The McLaughlin Motor Company joined forces with the new General Motors Corporation in 1918. It was the McLaughlin family home until 1972. THE BACK OF THE VERGER ESTATE is the Parkwood Estate that I talked about in an earlier post. They added some CGI to make it even grander! The Parkwood Estate is in Oshawa, Ontario. For those of you who are Adam Sandler fans, the Parkwood Estate was Billy Madison's Home. The estate is open for public tours, so I may have to take a trip out there soon! THE VERGER ESTATE STABLES are actually The Casa Loma Stables in Toronto, Ontario. The northern part of Casa Loma consists of a Hunting Lodge, Potting Shed, Greenhouses and Stables. Construction began in 1905, designed by Toronto architect E.J. Lennox. This magnificent structure was built for Sir Henry Pellat and his wife Mary; they used this in 1906 as a temporary residence while the main structure Casa Loma was being built across the street (1911-1913). A very interesting fact about the stables; they were used by the ASDIC (Anti-Submarine Detection Investigation Committee) from 1941-1945 for their invention, an early form of sonar. This sonar could detect a U-boat at a distance of 8km. They worked in secret; it wasn't until well after the war that any of this was revealed.
