Denise Vernay born Denise Jacob on 21 June 1924 in Paris and died on 4 March 2013 in Paris, was a French resistance fighter who operated under the aliases of "Miarka" and "Annie" from 1941. Arrested in 1944 while carrying two transmitters and finances for the Glières maquis, she was tortured by the Gestapo and and imprisonned at two Nazi concentration camps – Ravensbrück and Mauthausen. She was rescued by the Red Cross in April 1945 and returned home to France at the conclusion of the war.
