And not long after, Malcolm proposes to Dina. She throws herself into his arms. Her heart was beating with excitement. But also, with a flutter of fear. Her relationship with Buck was so precious to her. And she'd been hiding this from him for too long.
Only...
Buck: I've kind of known all along. Malcolm's not exactly great at sneaking out in the early hours, and it's not a huge house. I finally confronted him about his intentions with you.
Malcolm: So, I asked him for your hand in marriage.
Dina: Asking a man for a woman's hand. That's a bit old-fashioned!
But it was also sort of sweet, considering the odd circumstances.
Buck: I told him that. But I also gave him my blessing. After all, I still have a bit of time before college, and I had to approve of the new house, too.
Dina: ...new house?
Dina had told Malcolm that if she ever married again, she would want to move into a place that was just theirs, away from old memories and past lives.
Malcolm: I hope it's to your liking, darling. Buck favored the plants.
Dina almost giggles. Malcolm could be so formal sometimes. And his face was always so serious. But she knows he loves her.
Dina: I love it, Mal. Let's go see the rest.
Buck stays outside, just happy for the chance to get to know Malcolm's dog, Starlight.
Dina Caliente has been seeing Malcolm Landgraab. She had hesitated to date again, after Buzz's death. To spare Buck's feelings, she'd told herself. Though she'd known it was also because she was scared. Twice widowed, maybe she was cursed. Maybe she should just stick to casual flings. Like the night she'd woohooed with Don in the hot tub.
But things are getting serious now. And she knows she has to tell Buck soon.
Buck has been distracted, reconnecting with Jill Smith.
And getting closer than ever before!
Buck: What are your plans for college? Maybe - I mean, no pressure - but it might be cool if we went to the same school.
Jill: I'm not really sure yet. But yeah, that might be cool.
Buck: I really, really like you, Jill. I always have, honestly. But I was scared to get too close. I don't know what my Dad would've done. If he ever tried to hurt you...
Jill: Aw, Bucky. You always were too softhearted for your family. But nothing bad would've happened. I'm good at sneaking around. And I would've seen him coming from a mile away! Plus, I have ways of defending myself.
Buck chuckled. Maybe he had blown things out of proportion. Maybe it would have been fine. Maybe he should've had more of Tank's courage. More of Ripp's rebellious spirit. Even... more of his Dad's resolve.
Jill: But... that's part of what I like about you, Buck.
And there was no reason to hide now. Dina wasn't doing a great job of hiding her grin behind the newspaper, either. Buck was just hoping she wouldn't get up and hug them. Or start asking Jill a bunch of questions. Or launch into a lecture about safe woohoo or something.
He didn't really know what mothers usually did.
Dina only introduced herself a bit later. Very modestly. No weird questions about her family. Or lectures about woohoo. Just a...
Dina: It's really nice to meet you, Jill.
Jill: Thanks, Ms. Grunt!
Dina did walk them outside when it was time for Jill to leave, but she conveniently turned to admire the tulips. Giving Buck a chance to really kiss Jill goodbye.
We're not going to talk about the landscaping. The Monty Honeymoon Cottage has been a starter home for every Monty newlywed for the past 50 years. Bianca feels the sting of staring at the couples' photos as she sleeps alone. She tells herself being out of her parent's house is worth it, but the loneliness tells her otherwise.
Jessie Pilferson is apparently quite desirable these days!
Maxine is starting to try out her flirting skills, as well.
(I have marked down that she has a crush on Elliot. But that does not quite look like Elliot. 😅 This is what happens when you take 7 months to post screenshots. I need more detailed notes.)
Nina fulfilled her Lifetime Want!
Now she can focus more on romance.
Maxine is also succeeding in school. She gets the Scholar's Grant!
Her room gets a bit of an upgrade. And I say her room because...
So a question popped into my mind while playing Royalty & Legacy:
Who are the Capp children's parents?
Obviously Tybalt Capp is one of them...but who is the other parent?
So we're all familiar with the Capp family at this point:
Beatrice the heiress who longs for meaningful connections
Celeste the middle child who values the original Capp values of chivalry rather than her father's values
Virgilio the rebel outcast who wants nothing to do with the noble life
And of course, Tybalt Capp: head of the Capp dynasty and grand duke of Bellacorde who yearns for more power.
Looking at the Capp family tree, everything seems to be in order at first. We can see Juliette with Romeo and their son Dante. We can see Consort and Contessa Capp as well as Cordelia Capp. Safe to say the Sims team really made sure to flesh out the tree.
But when you get to Tybalt, there is no mention of a partner. Tybalt never married. There's a chance he married someone, had the three kids, and then wife died somehow, but wouldn't she still be on the tree?
This leads me to believe that whoever had kids with Tybalt is someone he wants to keep hidden: a person who could cause damage to the Capp name if word got out. But who could that be...?
Let's look at the kids and how they compare physically to Tybalt to see if we can sus out what physical characteristics the other parent might have.
Tybalt himself has auburn hair and green eyes: traits he gets from his father Caliban while his mother and most of the Capps before her had blonde hair and grey eyes.
Beatrice brings the first clue right off the bat: brown hair and brown eyes. As far as we know, no one else in the Capp family has these traits.
Celeste has green eyes like their father but has black hair. So far it seems like whoever parent 2 is has dark hair. Last but not least...
Virgilio here has brown eyes just like Beatrice, so that leads us to believe whoever their other parent is has brown eyes too. Now at a glance, you might say: "Oh, Virgilio has blonde hair. He probably gets that from his grandparents, right?" Well, dear reader, I encourage you to look closer. Virgilio's hair may be blonde...but his eyebrows are black. This likely means Virgilio originally had black hair but dyed it blonde at some point.
So what have we learned so far?
Dark hair, likely black
Brown eyes
Someone Tybalt wouldn't want people finding out about
I looked towards The Sims 2 to see if I could find any further hints. Maybe Tybalt had a crush on someone in the game where he made his first appearance. But alas, most of his relationships were acquaintances with the only exceptions being Consort Capp who was labelled as a friend, and Romeo and Mercutio Monty who were labelled as enemies.
So I was at a dead end for a little bit. I couldn't figure out who it could be. I tried looking at some of the NPCs in Ondarion to see who it could be but couldn't come up with an answer.
Until a thought hit me.
While they aren't in the Sims 4, they matched the description I was looking for...
Mercutio Monty.
"Uhh...Soul...male sims can't have babies with other male sims."
True...but they can have science babies.
So it's time for...
Soul's Sims 4 Tycutio Theory/Headcanon!
Somewhere between the events of Sims 2 and 4, Mercutio and Tybalt have a classic enemies to lovers story play out. However, unlike Romeo and Juliette being able to put aside their family names for love, Tybalt values the Capp dynasty too much, and thus keeps their relationship secret to avoid bringing disgrace to his family name. Eventually, he realises that in order to keep the Capp dynasty alive, he'll need heirs. So he concocts a cover story where he had a fiance who tragically died giving birth to his triplet children: Virgilio, Beatrice and Celeste. In reality, he had three science babies with Mercutio. In order to maintain the secret, Mercutio stayed in Veronaville while Tybalt raised the children in Bellacorde. Tybalt and Mercutio keep in touch through secret letters with Mercutio passing by Tybalt's home to check up on them whenever he's visiting Romeo and his family and even occasionally attending masquerades in disguise. The children have no idea Mercutio is their father and only know him as Romeo Monty's older brother. Mercutio hopes that he can one day persuade Tybalt to put the whole Monty vs Capp feud to rest so that they can not only repair the fractured bond between Tybalt and his sister, but also so that he can finally spend time with the children he had to watch grow up from a distance.
Or maybe this is just my way of trying to make Tycutio canon.
It's tough being the head of a warring household. Consort is having a rough day.
Between his grandchildren flirting with the Monty boys, his job as an aging CEO on the line, wandering through Downtown, and losing his mind, interacting with the Social Bunny in public might be the least of his problems!
Also, if you dig this premise, you can totally click on the title which brings you the AO3 fic of the same name. Rated T.
(Warning: lots of King Lear references because...it's Veronaville.)
