ophelia nigmos actually wears green contacts because johnny used to tell her that he absolutely would not hesitate to “lend her his eyes” anytime it gets too uneasy or feels overwhelmingly lonely to be in her aunties house. it was merely a play, until it became something more intimate between them and shaped their whole relationship.
her true eye color is the warmest brown that you’ve ever seen. johnny is the only one who knows that. or at least, witnesses their beauty regularly. I mean, olive does too but she doesn’t think about it or remember clearly. she was never good with kids or people in general anyway.
this continues up till their twenties when there is no olive or her ghosts anymore. ophelia finally feels ready to look at things as they are. her own house is not empty or by contrast, filled with eerie sounds of someone’s wandering around at night. it makes her a little sad though, because there’s no mystery left. no pinky promises and the thrill of keeping a secret either. they all have their responsibilities now. and despite all that this is what she wanted the most. an opportunity to exist in a safe place which you don’t have to escape. but to be.
(bonus: ripp knew about her true eye color only after ophelia and johnnys wedding happened. was deeply hurt because!!! they both lied to him!! he considered them the only people he knew almost everything about and that’s their thanks to him oooh right they were lovely dovely without him again. how dare they :/)
