Some moving #Scenes in the conclusion and Whitelaw is wonderful. The episode title refers to a character who does not actually appear in this episode #But the significance of the name hangs heavy over the episode until the reveal in the final moments of just what it means for #Napoleon going forwards... Baby Tim Curry returns and has acquired some preposterous facial hair during his time away. The events of the #Previous episode also seem to have created a deeper rift between Nap and Jeffrey's political advisor. Holm is very good here and really #Explores the depth of the emperors character and the extremes between which he can flit: in one scene raging madly at his followers and #Unleashing an extraordinary tirade on Jeffrey. The next he is gentle and loving with Schell or pitying and sorrowful with Whitelaw #An excellent performance

Or rather she exits the episode rather earlier than #Had anticipated. Will she return? I honestly don't know. I'm kind of glad by this point that I know so little about napoleon as it's adding #To my enjoyment of the show. This is a great Whitelaw episode and it's fascinating to see the way the relationship between Napoleon and #Josephine has changed since that first episode: here she seems genuinely to love him and to mourn his infidelity and the political #Manoeuvring to stay his wife is gone in favour of a seemingly genuine desire to be what they once were. Good old Peter Blythe has #Joined us too and Franklyn Robbins has a brief role as a fascinatingly creepy head of security. Napoleon's war machine thunders on #But the business of the day is begetting a son: cue some rather sad scenes with Whitelaw and a very subtle and layered performance #From Holm as a Napoleon who is indeed older and harder yet seems to have learnt kindness towards his wife in his own complex and #Dysfunctional way. Its a messy relationship but in a way I just want them to work it all out..

"Do you know what they are calling Marie Louise in the streets of Paris now, Claire? Do you know what they call her?"

"Yes, Your Majesty, I do know."

"The Austrian Woman. They want to get rid of her. They want me on the throne again, because I was his good luck. They're superstitious about it. They're afraid that his luck has turned."

"Let us hope not, Your Majesty."

"Yes. I hope not. I'm afraid that it may have done. I am superstitious too."
