26, 31, 38, 39 for the fanfic ask game!

Sorry it's taken me so long to get to this... I kept forgetting about it and then procrastinating on it. >.< 26. What is your favorite part about writing? Hmm... probably finding the right words to use to make my imagery crystal clear and figuring out the way to string words together in such a way that the writing itself kind of "sings", per se.

31. How do you stay motivated? By knowing that this current longfic/WIP of mine is one very close to my heart and a story that I've wanted to see - even if I'm telling it just for myself - is what makes me eager and excited to return to it and motivates me to see it through.

38. Fic idea you're most excited to get to? I have so so many (Ice Age) fic prompts but right now, none of those are what I'm most excited to get to - what I'm most excited to get to is the latter half of CI bk 1, cos that's when things start getting REALLY whumpy/angsty and included in the latter half of that longfic are scenes I've been yearning to bring to life for over a decade now, since planning on this fic specifically (Cruel Intentions {1}) began in 2009. 39. Do you have a preferred writing snack/drink?

No, not really. I don't often have snacks or drinks with me when I write, so I don't really use or have a "preferred" writing snack/drink. At the moment at least.

22. Do you title your fics before, during, or after the writing process? How do you come up with titles? For me, the titling process is usually something I do when the story/fic is in "pre-production" as my first process, because coming up with a title is often something I have left for myself in my Prompts doc along with the idea for the fic. And how I come up with titles - titles for me can come from anywhere, though common inspirations for me have been songs. :)

23. Is writing the beginning, middle, or end of the story easiest? Hardest? Hmm... I would say the middle is the hardest becos the middle is such an important and crucial part of any story (with the beginning and the ending, I usually have a rough idea in my head for how those should look before I sit down to write a longfic, for instance) since the middle has to lead the ending's culmination. When I was finishing up writing CI: Lacrimosa back in 2022/2023, I actually went back to my synopsis doc and wrote up those sections of it I hadn't gotten to when my mental block in 2013 happened since having a definitive synopsis/outline is a very good way to maintain one's story's course.

79. Do you have any writing advice you want to share?

This writing advice will go into the synopsis/outline I mentioned above. I cannot downplay how useful and significant having a synopsis is for one's story, since it allows one to track and see all the plot beats and different character intertwining and developments, especially for a large story that might extend over several longfics or installments.

Thank you so much for the questions! Sorry this is a kinda late response to them. 69. What are your favorite fics at the moment? Uh, at the moment I am not really actively reading much fic becos my mind is so consumed with working on my CI-verse series, namely chapter 6, so my answer to this is that I don't really have any at the moment. 🤷‍♀️ 72. What’s your favorite writing compliment you’ve gotten? Hmm, there's been so many of them over the years but I would have to say that the favourite writing compliment I've gotten over the years is how often people have told me, for my Ice Age fics, how Manny, Diego, and Sid's (but especially Manny & Diego's) interactions and the way they sound are very in-character, which means a lot to me becos those guys have been living in my head since 2002 and I try my best in my Ice Age fics to do them justice! <3

79. Do you have any writing advice you want to share?

That using brackets - like these [ ] when in the process of drafting up your fic and/or chapter are invaluable, not only as a way to leave notes for one's self for later, but when the fic is being in the process of being written and you're not sure whether you want this sentence phrased this way or not, leaving it in the brackets is an easy way to highlight it to come back later for revisions and once you're satisfied with the bracketed sentence, to confirm it in the doc all one needs to do is remove the bracketing. This writing tip is so useful to me nowadays, it's great.
