There were times when Yelena was fine taking orders from Valentina. It kept her busy and her mind preoccupied with matters other than the thoughts that so often swam around her mind and made her want to down a bottle of vodka. Then there were times where the woman drove her mad and she needed to put some distance between the two in order to keep the widow still hidden within her at bay.
That mixed with that fact that she was reminded that her team was a mess was enough to put Yelena out on the street that night. In an attempt to keep herself from drowning her sorrows, knowing it wouldn't be worth it in the morning - she brought Po along. If she wasn't going to stay sober for herself, at least she could make sure to keep her pet guinea pig protected - she didn't rescue him from that explosion for nothing.
Yelena had made it halfway from the Watchtower when her phone began to ring in her pocket. She let out a heavy sigh, using her free hand to retrieve her phone and bringing it up to her ear without even needing to look at the caller ID. "What do you have a tracker on me or something?" she asked the woman on the phone. Yelena had been too distracted mocking the woman on the other line as she spoke, that she hadn't seen the person coming right towards her before it was too late.
Bodies collided and Yelena heard the squeak of Po before they jumped from her hand in terror. "Shit! Valentina I have to go," she said as she hung up without waiting for the other to respond. Yelena shoved the person who had bumped into her and yelled at them that they needed to watch where they were going before she frantically searched the ground - hoping someone hadn't already turned Po into a pancake.
