Life after the collapse of the plate on Sector 7 plunged the denizens of Midgar into chaos. The dust had only begun to settle and ragtag groups calling themselves rescue teams had already rushed into the unstable wreckage to find loved one's and other survivors. Others, fled. Beyond the megalopolis walls, into the rural highlands where they could lick their wounds and at least try to put their shattered lives together.
No one questioned a strange face any longer. The silent comradery was a shield that protected Genesis from answering any questions, and after the dirty-faced farmer and inn-keep checked him, he took some time to brood at the fireplace. Behind him, some of the other guests were drinking, loudly, easing aches both inside and out. ShinRa was a hot topic of late as was AVALANCHE, that eco-terrorist group that apparently was responsible for this most recent catastrophe.
Not that Genesis could say whether he cared or not. The plate had broken many ShinRa facilities, Deepground, and his prison, being one of them. Lives were lost, but lives had long since just been numbers to him.
The two drinking men gossiped and laughed, encouraging the other to become more and more bold with their grievances. "You'd think ShinRa woulda stopped them terrorists. How many reactors got blown, and now a whole plate? Nothing like they used to be."
"Nah, not since Sephiroth defected. Guy went crazy and burned down a whole village-- all downhill from there."
Genesis stiffened, dull, cloudy eyes flickering over his shoulder. Nibelheim.
You will rot.
Ah, ironic. Genesis had already lost count how many times the Lifestream had spat him back out, a horrific ping-pong match between the operating table in Deepground and itself. Denied a final rest, to be reunited with all that was lost. Maybe there, those cherished two were still waiting. Maybe, they weren't. He couldn't blame them.
In truth, Genesis was fixated on the conversation behind him that he was otherwise entirely oblivious to his surroundings, or who he was actually facing in his eavesdropping. Undoubtedly, the expression he bore was not one all too pleasant, borderline murderous.
"--maybe the guy wasn't so great afterall. Maybe them Wutains had it right with the silver devil thing."
Gripping the leather arm of the chair facing the fire, he quite nearly rose. But he was stopped. The person he had been unwittingly making faces at had spoken, and like the SOLDIER he was in the throes of furious battle, he snapped to attention, all the nearly unbridled rage bearing down on that innocent bystander. It was a young woman.
Familiar?
"..." He let out a short exhale, the most he could to let the boil of his blood settle. "Nothing at all." He lied, plainly. Causing a disturbance now was not in his best interest. His time in Deepground had been draining, and to lose his opportunity for shelter and much needed rest was the more rational way to look at things.
Focus on the girl. Drown out the rest.
"I know you." Genesis stated, eyes narrowing. Perhaps it was not the best line he could have stated if he well and truly wished to remain dead in the eyes of the public but it was the price to be paid not to draw even further attention to himself.
"Where?" It was not a question, but a demand, one of urgency, almost a threat. More a hostage situation, if one thought about it.
