Honestly she had intended to go about her day without any banter with the surrounding soldiers. It had been a long shift and it was important to decompress and get in some moments of quiet, free time was never a certainty or guaranteed and she could be called back on the flip of a dime.
However, not even she could walk past what was happening... Aerith looked up at precisely the right time to watch a man busy at work just... casually lean over and eat some food like he was a damned horse being offered an apple. She exhaled a hard breath and smiled to herself, opting to stop and watch. Sure enough he did it again soon enough.
She made a slow advance, amused and intrigued in equal measure. There was a smart-ass kind of comment just waiting to be made. It was on the tip of her tongue. She opened her mouth as though she were going to speak, but then he knocked his own meal off the crate.
Aw. Well, there was no fun in teasing now. Without a second thought she moved to help him out. Even dusted the grit from the bar before she fed it to him.
Then he got the first words in. A giggle bubbled up before she could stop herself, not that she would have, because in the next moment she serenaded the opening of a song to him.
“Shot through the heart! And you’re to blame!” Aerith pointed, even went as far as giving his shoulder a too-gentle nudge before she tore her focus away. Her head tipped back and she uttered an audible ‘damn it’ to herself. Just like that, there went her sanity. That song would haunt her now.
Her head rolled to look back to him, her smile caught somewhere between mirth and disbelief. “You returned fire, soldier. I’m not going to recover from that for days.”
