I am feeling mighty nostalgic lately, and was determined last night to find this older InuYasha fic I read ages ago with an original character and the Band of Seven--and I finally found it!

I think it's a great example of an "older" fandom fic with an original character worked into the story that feels plausible.

I remember my grandparents used to buy dinner for their parents instead of the parent buying for their kids but really our generation doesn't have a choice, we can barely afford to feed ourselves let alone our parents so we have to rely on them to feed us.

It extends beyond immediate family though. My girlfriend's sister's dad (different from hers) and their stepmom work different shifts, overtime just to keep the house and have to make time between all that to call off and have it so that me and my girlfriend can come see them. Making a schedule and then being able to afford it. All this just to be able to even SEE your family member.
