All the Workouts 12-26-2016 to 1-1-2017
12-26: P90X3 Pilates. Not much to say about this one; it was fine.
12-27: Vertical Barre in lieu of Eccentric Lower. Read my review of this class here. Was it a reasonable substitution? Hard to say; I definitely got a solid lower body workout in, so probably.
It is a bit odd to wrap P90X3 with a substitution, but there you go. All in all, I had a lot of fun with this program. On to a few random days before we start Focus T25 (accelerated).
12-28: Rest
12-29: Stronger: Iron. This is part of a free program available on the Live Strong website; I don’t know why it is free or what their business model is (oddly enough, it uses the Shaun T Cize studio stage), but there you go. This workout is focused on bodyweight moves, three rounds, four moves each round, each move done four times in 20sec on/10sec off intervals. The format is always upper/lower/ab/cardio. You do some traditional things like squats and push-ups, but you also do more shoulder moves than one typically does in body weight, a lot of oblique focused ab moves, and a few fun things like a table move where you then push back into a sort of seated move with your butt coming down and past your hands and back, and a plank to beast move. I was really nauseated for some unclear reason, so it’s a bit hard to say how hard this workout is. That said, I think it’s a great option if you are traveling and want to get some interesting/varied strength training in without weights.
12-30: Stronger: Combustion. I continued this series by Nicky Hollander (Josh joined me both times); I’ve been pretty well impressed by his routines. He does a good job with body weight and is pretty creative. This one was HIIT style, 10 moves for about two minutes each. First you do the move (say one legged burpees, including one legged get up and jump which makes it harder) for one minute, then you do 20sec of a recover move (demi squat with an arm chopper ab twist or plank, for example), then you do the move for a final 30 sec push, followed by 10 seconds for him to demo the next round while you get water. It was certainly challenging, with a good mix of moves.
12-31: Rest/long plane ride back to DC.
1-1: Reformer Pilates at Fuse Pilates. Read my review of this fitness adventure here (Platform at Pure Barre was sold out).
I got my full pike in class today. I'm pretty proud of that; I'm only four classes in.
