[podfic] like fruit, my soul, by breathedout
this one only marginally counts as part of @voiceteam; one of the challenges, bird by bird, involved doing some significant amount of work on a WIP. @havingbeenbreathedout gave me permission to record this lovely tipsy middle-of-the-night monologue by Virginia Woolf back last summer, and I immediately did so. on listening to the raw recording, I realised it needed three or four small pickups — but it was hot as fuck, I’d have had to turn off the fridge again, and I just—
look, last year was a slog, it really was.
anyway, it was the perfect candidate. I turned off my fridge, recorded the pickups (and, ironically, forgot to turn my fridge back on again for a day, during which things inside rose to springlike temperatures; I threw out a couple of the more obvious candidates for Danger!! but am otherwise living on the edge with the rest and who knows, may well yet die of podfic-induced salmonella), and edited the narrative track into a nice ready-to-mix state.
the finished piece, with music and a few sound effects, was completed post-voiceteam. I’m rather pleased with this one as well. not as flashy as cog in the machine, but though I say so myself, there’s some not too shabby performance in this! if you are one of the ...three? known people with a fannish interest in the relationship of Virginia Woolf with Vita Sackville-West (and other members of the Bloomsbury Group), have a listen! the original story is a beautiful, subtle, and (as to be expected from breathedout) absolutely solidly-researched piece, and I enjoyed reading it tremendously.
my gratitude to breathedout for allowing me to read this for you cannot be contained in bottles.
