This is MUCH easier than the Speech Bubble.
“We never see Troy confide his desire to be ordinary, to not have all of this crushing pressure weighing on his shoulders, to Kelsi, but she understands, regardless, what he’s looking for.”
I will discuss the completely wasted potential by having so few Trelsi conversations later. But then again, their communication is so natural that my annoyance is somewhat abated.
“Unfortunately, she’s under the mistaken belief that Gabriella is providing what Troy is seeking.”
Isn’t she JUST?! Again, this is all upcoming material, but both Troy and Kelsi indirectly work against any possibility of getting to know each other better. They don’t spend much, if any, time together outside of the music hall doing musical-related stuff. We don’t see them hanging out, which is a great shame, because I honestly believe that once they spent more time together, Troy would like her a LOT more than he allegedly likes Gabriella. Because whilst I think Troy fell in love with Gabriella, as the series wears on, he becomes dependent upon her, which is not love and is certainly not romantic. I will discuss this later on as well.
“The more I watch these films, the more I view Troy sort of misinterpreting his repressed love for performing and singing as a love for Gabriella. Singing, dancing, pouring his entire being into a power ballad, is such an important facet of his identity, attributing it solely to Gabriella is doing it a disservice. It cheapens it.”
Absolutely! This is a very good way of putting it. He IS misinterpreting this like there’s no tomorrow, which leads to him crediting Gabriella for things she had never caused/done/influenced much later on. Gabriella never shows as much passion and involvement in the art of performing as Troy does, and she is nowhere near as captivating a performer, either. To her, it’s something she likes to do. For Troy, it might potentially be his future. So there is (yet another) VAST difference between Troy and Gabriella when it comes to performing, yet again undermining the alleged value of Troyella romance, which becomes more of a distraction when considering how these stories are about Troy’s coming of age.
"And, though it never factors into the story in any meaningful way, Troy does have an acoustic guitar sitting in his bedroom in the third movie.“
NEVER would have noticed that. You have a good eye for detail!
“Perhaps he used to play, even for fun, when he was younger, but wound up shelving both the instrument, and his love for music, as he aged and basketball began to take priority.”
Cool headcanon! Makes a lot of sense.
Ryan’s reaction to Chad in HSM I... Christ! And yet we’re supposed to believe the two are a viable pairing in the next movie based on what evidence? Please! What a joke. Once again left puzzled by the philosophy of many fans.
