GUYS! Guys, medi-gel has basically been invented!
Guys this is insane. This is a gel made from algae that can seal a wound in seconds, developed by a 17 year old. It’s already been cleared to use on animals and they’re trying for FDA approval for use on humans by the end of this year.
The gel is bioresorbable, which means that it can either be removed or left to be absorbed naturally, kind of like a scab. It also provides flexibility and a fair amount of stress resistance. There’s no preparation needed before applying it to a wound, so it’s ideal for emergencies such as a soldier being shot or a stab wound. No special training is needed to use the gel properly and it doesn’t have any special storage requirements; just take it off the shelf in the hall closet and squirt the gel into the wound. This would have been great to have when my dog bit me lol.
The clot that it forms is fast acting and, more importantly, it’s long lasting. It reduces the need for additional applications of the gel and that means less blood loss. It’s also used for moderate to severe bleeding, so whether it’s a minor abrasion or arterial bleeding it can stop the bleeding without the need for applying pressure to the wound. It can be applied internally or externally, which is especially useful when other methods are impractical or impossible.
It also speeds up the natural production of blood clotting agents, just click the link and you’ll get tons of information. It’s pretty amazing, and again, it was developed by a 17-year old boy named Joe Landolina.
A small lab in Brooklyn is working on a gel that can stop bleeding in 20 seconds. Platelets stick together when VetiGel, made from plant-based polymers, comes into contact with blood. VetiGel’s co-founder, Joe Landolina, started working on the project while he was a freshman at New York University.
