Heyyyy I haven’t posted in a while because I’ve been drawing a lot but haven’t been really working on the comic, I’ve also learnt about one of my new favorite Norse Gods, which is Viðarr

If you don’t know about Viðarr he’s the Norse god of vengeance who kills Hoðr to avenge Balder, and kills Fenrir to avenge Odin. He’s the second strongest Norse God (just behind Thor, of course), and he uses an archer. He has funny magic boots that are actually like 14 pairs of ruined scrap boots all combined into one magical abomination that could break Fenrir’s jaw (and does)

Anyways my new PFP is of Viðarr, Balder, and Thor <3 (That is left to right btw)

This interaction never happened because Viðarr is born after Balder’s death and grows up in a day and kills Hoðr the next day, but I wanted all 3 of them in one picture because I love them

God of: nature, forests, fields, fertility, harvest, flocks, agriculture, healing, hunting

Identified with: Víðarr (Norse), Silvanus (Roman), Pan (Greek), Cernunnos (Celtic), Min (Egyptian)

Symbols: goats (Vidasus is depicted as a god that is half goat half man), herbs, nature, horns, hooves, Pan pipes

Offerings: anything from nature, plants, leaves, pinecones, branches, wooden objects, plant based foods, meat, (goat) milk, sexual acts

Colours: green, brown, white

Incense: musk, pine, birch, anything nature related

Devotional acts:

meditate in nature, clean a forest/field/riverside, collect berries, heal spiritually, sing and dance, perform sexual acts, walk in a forest, take time to appreciate nature, study herbs, remember Vidasus in the end of April and beginning of May, wear his colours, water your houseplants, practice self love

Disclaimer: Some of the things I've mentioned here, especially devotional acts and offerings are UPG. The reason for that is that the illyrian religion doesn't have many texts (if any), oral tradition and UPG is the only way to collect information about these gods if we exclude a wikipedia article. I will try my best to learn and educate myself so I can spread awareness about these beautiful gods of old. If you have any more informarion feel free to share it or message me.

The story of Ragnarok and the destruction of the world seems, at first glance, to be rather gloomy.  The battle destroys the world, the gods die and, worst of all, they have foreknowledge of it, but cannot alter their fate.  Yet there is more to it than that.  For one thing, the 'Twilight of the Gods', as the end of the world is sometimes called, provides a fitting end to the stories of the gods.  Just as Norse warriors hoped to meet a glorious end in battle and earn a place in Valhöll, the tale of the great warrior god Thor should not end in old age and sickness. Indeed, the gods meet a glorious end defending their world against the forces of 'utangard', who have come to return it to a state of chaos uninhabited by mortals.  Thor dies, but only after defeating the giant serpent Jörmungandr.  He lives long enough to know he has won his greatest victory and that those sheltering behind him are safe.  To the Norse mindset, there can be no better way to go.  Likewise, dutiful and steadfast Heimdall and treacherous Loki slay one another.  Odin is killed by the wolf Fenrir, but the Allfather is immediately avenged by his son.

Viðarr

Es el hijo de Odín y la giganta Gríðr en la mitología nórdica. Es el dios del silencio, la venganza y la justicia. En el mundo renacido que emergerá luego del Ragnarök, Viðarr  está predestinado a regresar con su hermano Vali.

Durante el Ragnarök, Odín será devorado por el lobo Fenrir y Viðarr  vengará su muerte matando a la bestia. De acuerdo a Vafþrúðnismál, Viðarr mata a Fenrir pisando su mandíbula inferior con el pie, en el cual llevaba un zapato que consistía de tiras de cuero de los cuales los hombres, seguidores de los Æsir, pelaban de sus zapatos en la zonas de los dedos y talones para fortalecerlo. Teniendo su pie situado, tomará la mandíbula superior del lobo y lo desgarrará. Sin embargo, de acuerdo a Völuspá, usó su espada para matarlo dirigiéndola directo hacia su corazón.

So I found this thing and thought I should do this with my characters <3 with so,so fun facts (that are true to my knowledge, please correct me if I’m wrong!) and song recs under the cut!!

BALDER

He is the god of light, innocence, purity, joy, and beauty. He’s considered the most beautiful of the gods. He was heir to the throne of Asgard, and was the main reason Asgard was holding itself together (ref: Ragnarok) Odin fought to retrieve him from Hel’s grasp, and she always kept Balder just out of Odin’s reach. Balder took care of Hoðr as much has he could.

THOR

He is the god of Thunder, strength, storms, lightning, and freedom. He is considered the protector of Humanity. He’s considered both a Fertility and a War god. He is called the strongest of all the gods, and he is nearly uncontested for strength. There was one time where Mjolnir was stolen from him by the giant Thrym. Thrym demanded that, for Mjolnir’s return, he would get Freya’s hand in marriage. Thor went, dressed up as Freya. Thrym had terrible eyesight, so he could not tell. When Mjolnir was proposed to Thor as a wedding gift, he slayed all of the giants there (except Loki) and returned with no other difficulty. (I’m gonna stop here, but I could talk wayyy more about him)

VIÐARR

He is the god of vengeance and silence. He is also seen as the god of Justice too, though that title more commonly goes to Týr. He is the second strongest good, only shy of Thor. He is an expert archer but can use all weapons. He is one of the youngest gods, being born After Balder’s death and growing up within a day. Many tales between Viðarr and Váli seem to be mixed up whenever I find them, so excuse any inaccuracies 😅 He slain the great Fenrir wolf after he killed the Allfather, and survived Ragnarok. He has magical boots (that I won’t let myself go into detail about right now)

HOÐR

He is Balder’s disabled twin brother and the god of darkness, winter, night, and (sometimes) war. He is blind and said to be crippled as well. He is most famous for trusting Loki and in turn killing Balder. He paid for that with his life, as he was slain by (I believe(0) Viðarr. (Either Viðarr or Váli, their tales are often jumbled together).

ODIN

Odin needs no introduction. He is the Allfather, the Omnicient leader god. He is seen as a god of wisdom, and many other things (that are up to interpretation). He has two ravens, Huginn (Thought) and Muninn (Memory). Odin tends to roam all the realms, doing as he pleases. He is a shapeshifter, but tends to take the form of a wise old man. He has almost selfish tendencies in gaining more wisdom and knowledge. He tricked Týr into losing his hand by lying to Fenrir wolf. He is also considered a protector of humanity and is one of the main reasons why Jotuns have not exterminated us, as many say.

I’m an autistic Norse-mythology lover. I do extensive research in my free time and draw SO MUCH of them that it is all that I have seen over the last two-ish months (I think? I’m really bad with time). None of the names listed are my real name but they’re names I enjoy using (ALittleSketchy, Fey, Liljahilde, and Lilly)! I go by any pronouns as well <3 I’m thinking of starting g Commissions soon too!!
