DreamHack 2014

I had never watched a live esports event before yesterday's Hearthstone tournament at DreamHack and holy shit did I pick a good one to start with. The matches were redonkulous and not exactly what I expected.

When Reynad came out in his first game with the aggro Warrior deck and absolutely smashed faced I almost lost my shit! It felt like everyone else was playing Miracle Rogue and snoozefest Druid up until that point and then all of the sudden BOOM... Reynad starts dropping Worgen Infiltrators to the face. Hilarious and awesome, mad props to Reynad for doing something unexpected.

Another highlight for me was getting to see my boy Amaz make it to the finals. Even though he lost (more on that later) I think he came out as the best player in the tournament. The game when he played Priest and beat Realz Handlock deck showed just how thoughtful and skilled he is. If you don't watch Amaz's stream you should, you will be "Amazed" at what the  guy does with Priest, it's absolutely unreal.

So about that hot drama...yea I dunno what to say. If you don't know what happened this is basically what when down. Amaz was playing RDU in the finale and during one of the matches RDU apparently received in game messages from friends about what cards Amaz was holding. The officials (is that what they are called?) talked to RDU about it after the game but Amaz had no clue it was happening until later on.

Sounds super shady right? I think it's shady too but I don't want to jump the gun and call RDU a cheater. I watched RDU the entire day and he seems like a super nice and respectful kid. He was so grateful to even be at the event and he was nothing but polite the entire tournament. I think it's unfortunate what happened but I don't think RDU was trying to cheat and neither does Amaz.

All in all I loved watching the Hearthstone tournament at DreamHack. I was blown away by the energy level during the games and it was really cool to see how pro players handled certain situations. I can't image sitting up on a stage in front of all those people with the pressure of playing for $10,000, it's got to be so intense. Hats off to the players, announcers, organizers and Viagame for the stream, I will absolutely be tunning in for the next DreamHack.
