This German card game dates to about 1850. Children would change the legs and bodies of people and animals to make comical combinations. Each card is hand-colored.

Puzzle toy, c. 1879. It was meant to be assembled as the child read the accompanying story. In poem form, it tells the story of an impoverished orphan, helped by various strangers, who passes out in front of a wealthy family’s home and is adopted by them.
Summer weather is perfect for getting outside and playing games! This game of quoits, or as it’s better known as ring toss, would be a great way to spend an afternoon!
The history of quoits is debated, as it could be traced back to ancient Greece, however, it was during the 19th century that it became documented, and rules were first published in the 1880s.

Mumblety peg. A crazy ass game that children used to play with knives. (Also an amazingly obscure reference in Family Guy. Seth MacFarlane is from a planet I don't know about.)
The game defined by Wikipedia:
Mumblety peg is generally played between two people with the aid of a pocket knife. In one version of the game, two opponents stand opposite one another with their feet shoulder-width apart. The first player then takes the knife and throws it to "stick" in the ground as near his own foot as possible. The second player then repeats the process. Whichever player "sticks" the knife closest to his own foot wins the game.
If a player "sticks" the knife in his own foot, he wins the game by default, although few players find this option appealing because of the possibility of bodily harm. The game combines not only precision in theknife-throwing, but also a good deal of bravado and proper assessment of one's own skills.
The term "Mumblety-peg" came from the practice of putting a peg of about 2 or 3 inches into the ground. The loser of the game had to take it out with his teeth.[2]Mumbletypeg was very popular as a schoolyard game in the nineteenth and first half of the twentieth centuries, but with increased concern over child safety the game has declined in popularity.Mark Twain's bookTom Sawyer, Detectiverecounts "mumbletypeg" as one of boys' favorite outdoor games.[3]

"The game of "Peter Coddle" in all its various editions was the most popular reading game of the 1880s and 1890s. The game was based around the story of a country boy's misadventures in New York City." (1) Per the enclosed instructions: "The leader begins to read the narrative aloud. As often as he comes to a _____, he must pause and one of the players in turn must read from a card taken at random from his hand." The booklet then gives an 8 page story of a country boy named Peter Coddle and his adventures in the Big City. Example: "I had a great notion to see one of those big stores of which I had heard so much. I took an hour's walk through one of them. In this one they had ____, _____, _____, and ______." Four randomly chosen cards gave me these fill-in-the-blanks: A Safety Razor, His Satanic Majesty, A New Idea, and A Leaky Tea-kettle.
