A new development in my life: One of my Internet friends, who goes by “victorluvsalice” here on Tumblr, recently blocked me both here and on FanFiction (where she goes by “Flaming Trails”. I used the commenting feature on Archive of Our Own (”Crossover_Chick”) to ask why, and here’s her reply:
“I realized you were actually using your tumblr and took a look at what was on it. COVID anti-vaxxers are not welcome here. Trust me, if I'd had the ability to block you here as well, I would have.”
On her RP blog, “thevalicemultiverse”, she will rip into Right Wingers and Conservatives whenever prompted to. Whenever I read that, I would just sigh and choose to focus on her fanfics rather than her politics. Instead of extending that same courtesy to me, she immediately blocks me and shuts down all attempts to talk about this.
The Left claims to be “tolerant” of others, but are they? As a Conservative, if someone has a lifestyle, opinion, or belief that I disagree with, I don’t attack them for it, I don’t block them, and I don’t ostracize them for it. I live and let live and get on with my day.
On the other hand, if a Leftist encounters a lifestyle, opinion, or belief that they disagree with, they attack, block, and ostracize the holder of the opinion or belief without pity or regret. In their eyes, anyone who doesn’t agree with them is less than human and doesn’t deserve to be heard or talked to.
Does the Left truly deserve the courtesy that we extend to them? We tell ourselves that we have to be the “Bigger Man”, that by stooping to their level, we are invalidating our own beliefs. They don’t see it that way; we turn the other cheek and they keep right on slapping, no hesitation or mercy. In any fight, the aggressor sets the rules; they are the aggressors here, and it’s time we started playing by the rules.
