FLEX VID - 1 VHS

Video Flex is proud to announce our very first compilation VHS, FLEX VID - 1. Serving up a platter of electronic sets from a mix of new unreleased material and selections from the archive, with live performances from the likes of GAUD, INFORMATICS, PAPAPHILIA, COLLECTOR, and ROMAN NAILS. 

GAUD - Live at Goodtime Studios

Performed by Nick Kuceli, GAUD has crafted a wonderful slice of acid soaked industrial techno timed to a tee. This is one of our favourites here at Video Flex. Thirteen minutes of monochrome magic. 

Since this performance and the release of his debut tape Idle Cycle on hibernating Future Archaic label, Gaud has released a second tape titled GP on the Distort label, and currently has a new serving of tracks on Altered States Tapes entitled Brained. The newest Gaud release travels down a long path of minimal electronics with high reward. Feel the slow burn right here

INFORMATICS - Live at KIPL

 Melbourne post-punk veterans, INFORMATICS play their first live set since 1984 at KIPL for the Sabbatical Labour day weekend in 2012 and do not disappoint. Performing to a projection of Jean-Luc Godard’s 1965 classic, Alphaville. Killer set sounding unlike their Dance To A Dangerous Beat compilation recordings released on Dark Entries.

PAPAPHILIA - Live at Goodtime Studios

Excellent set of unhinged hallucinogenic psych from PAPAPHILIA. A manic video full of unlimited colour possibilities and luscious drum and vocal trances.  

This was the first video uploaded into the archive and is a real treat from Fjorn, who has been producing amazing experimental tape based music in Melbourne over the last 6 years. 

COLLECTOR- Live at Goodtime Studios

We recommend you pay attention to Newcastle’s COLLECTOR.  Stripped back, unrelenting industrial techno, mixed with an el-classical cartoon treasure. Collector has an LP soon to be released on the newly established label Drawing Heat. We’ve uploaded the whole set, its that good. 

ROMAN NAILS - Live at Goodtime Studios

Cooper Bowman is the proprietor behind Altered States Tapes, and the little rascal behind hypnotic experimental techno project- ROMAN NAILS. Out of the Motörshed and straight into a short noise laden tech set, whacked out of order and into shape. Dance to the grater. 

With an edition of 40, FLEX VID -1 runs for approx 1hr 40min and comes housed in the usual trimmings.

MERMAIDS - LIVE AT KIPL VHS

Two blazers from shirtless Newcastle, THE MERMAIDS, perform to a crowd of noise creeps and off- the-street yahoos at ALTERED STATES TAPES Noise BBQ event. Hosted at KIPL in West Melbourne summer of 2012, Noise BBQ hosted an array of bent noise and electronic music from around Australia.

Witness exotic blunt twiddling, unsuitable flooring conditions, humans used as cup holders, automatic zoom mishaps and crazy Mermaid fanatics caught in trance.

This is a document of the world falling to pieces. If you have no daughters, give them to your sons, hot cross buns.

THE ZINGERS “STILL DOING IT” VHS

THE ZINGERS may have packed their bags and moved on up to their private condos, country estates, and forest temples after the global success of The Zingers ST LP- but luckily for us, were grand enough to give VIDEO FLEX legal clearance on the release of THE ZINGERS live in concert. Documents were faxed, nods were given, and John Hancocks graced our papers in sacred ink.

"Still Doing It," the second VHS release from Video Flex, presents footage of THE ZINGERS playing a sold-out concert to ogled-eyed fans at an entertainment complex tucked away in the dirty gentrified middle-class suburb of Northcote. For safety reasons, THE ZINGERS were escorted by a private security team led by Bruno, head of Zinger safety.

Bruno’s footage of THE ZINGERS is a beautiful array of colour, sound and sandwiches carefully prepared by Zingers front man and 2013 Australian of the year, Randy Richard. Crowd favourite, Chingford shows his appreciation to the crowd with such grace and vigour. Swastika Sweatman (lovingly known as Bigot Bryce) shows off his flair and charisma behind the wooden percussion instrument, while Wes plays guitar.

THE ZINGERS “Still Doing It” VHS contains a video cassette tape of The Zingers “Still Doing It,” A detailed insert containing the lyrics to the unreleased smash hit “You’ll Get Nothing And Like It” and a complementary Video Flex sticker. This truly is the quintessential Zinger time piece for the home or office.

Banger set right here from Nick Kuceli, who plays under the name GAUD. Acid soaked industrial techno residing in Melbourne. Another great set from the Boundary II night.

JUSTIN FULLER

Labour Day Weekend was an experimental electronic music event organised by the switched on collective of SABBATICAL records and hosted by the hard working KIPL crew. KIPL was a massive warehouse situated in West Melbourne and was responsible for a string of excellent shows. We salute you.

One of the killer performances from the weekend came from Justin Fuller. JK’s style of heavy Detroit influenced techno blew the socks off everybody in the room. It was a relatively new path Justin was going down at the time after years of guitar driven improvised noise music. It felt fresh and unhinged but at the same time no bullshit and straight to the point.

“I just like to trim the fat. I can’t stop myself putting a really awful frequency into a part that just doesn’t work. It comes from sound performance. I’d rather come away from something loving or hating it then being indifferent to it”

SIMFUCKERS

I’ve aways depended on the kindness of strangers, but thankfully I knew this guy and was lucky enough to find a tape sitting in singer Elliot Raphael, and Ms Flex’s lounge room. This set was filmed upstairs at The Tote around 2am, filmed by a lovely man named Hugh Maher - also known for his latex skills and overall charm. 

From the city of yawns, SIMFUCKERS play ripping fucked up hardcore punk. These guys must have skipped church and instead worshipped YDI, SICK THINGS and ICEHOUSE... Yes, Icehouse. Elliot behind the microphone is like a hot jar of chutney pulled out of boiling water. I love it.
