    Eric turned his head just slightly to meet her gaze. It was a sweet gesture that he was not entirely sure he deserved, but he welcomed it all the same. “Sookie.” Her name came out as a sacred whisper and he reached out to trace his fingers over her jaw. Then he leaned in and pressed a kiss to her forehead, his arms wrapping about her waist to pull her closer.

Sookie smiled at the intimacy they still both had even after all these years. She found her arms slipping over his waist, tightening at the base where spine met his backside. Sookie wanted to stay like this a little while longer. “I missed this.”

When he attempted to move his jaw, the pain was back. His lips were dry and twice as thick as usual, covered in scab and it hurt when he twitched his mouth to speak. Poseidon opened his eyes slowly, or tried to at least because only his left eye responded to the command. He squint at the light and the white walls; the entire world squeezed into a blur of too bright shapes. He gave it another, a more careful try.

Opening his good eye only a bit, he waited until his visions cleared, and then opened his eye all the way.  Then, he noticed his left arm had a cast and surgical nails. The memory of the last battle came to his mind.  The boy from one broke his left wrist by stepping on it.  He thought he had the upper hand in the fight. Yet, he never expected Poseidon was ambidextrous. He could use his left hand just as well as his right one. Poseidon was smart enough to keep that secret. Even his mentors didn’t know that piece of information. The poor guy from  district one never expected the knife penetrated his skull full speed. Poseidon never missed his target.

“Enough rest. Get up” He commanded himself to get up from bed. He had an split ankle, but he didn’t care. He had more serious things to focus. He needed to send money to district 4 as soon as possible. He used his last savings to get medical attention for his father for so me days. Now that he was a victor, he could send more.

“What do you want?” He said when he heard someone opening the door.
