The animated opening titles of Vikram Vedha (2017) are great and although the rest of the film doesn't quite live up to this opening promise it is never the less an entertaining Tamil cops and gangsters action romp which is made more interesting by the storyline taken from the folktale on which the opening animation is based. In the folktale a king tries to trap a vampiric spirit but each time he captures him the spirit escapes by telling a story that ends with a riddle. In the film Vikram (Madhavan), a police inspector, sets out to track down Vedha (Vijay Sethupathi), a gangster. Within the film's twists and turns Vedha tells Vikram three stories which change Vikram's perceptions of good and evil. Vikram Vedha entered the IMDB top 250 at 151 in October and has slowly dropped down to 220. The 250 is a list I have completed in the past and try to keep on top of, but I might have just waited for it to drop out as I sometimes do with these populist Indian films.
