The Adventures of an English Teacher Part I
Hello all,
Rebekah reporting from an English teaching post in Jeonju, South Korea.
It is Sunday night, making it four days since I arrived. The weather has been cold, but the food has been fantastic and the people friendly.
The first experience I'd like to chronicle is the airplane ride. When the travel agency quoted a flight using United airlines, I pulled a grumpy cat face and said, "Thanks very much, but I think I'll book my own flight." When I went to South Korea the first time as a missionary, I rode Singapore Airlines. So I looked them up, and they had an incredibly low rate of just $430 for a ticket to Seoul. All other airlines were in the $800 range.
Let's just say that if Singapore Airlines were a person, I'd would marry them. When you board, they give you a hot towel for your face, slippers and a little toothbrush and toothpaste. AND ALSO everyone has their own monitor to watch movies, TV shows, listening to music, etc. Somehow, and I don't know how this happened again (because it happened the first time I flew with them), I had a WHOLE ROW to myself. (I should make a note here that my capital letters indicate excitement and an increase in the volume level of my voice, not anger) In the middle of the flight, an older Korean gentleman came and sat in the row. But, hey, I didn't complain because he kept giving me food. Hollah!
My first meal was, as the menu called it, Korean braised meat with rice and noodles. It also came with a side of salmon and salad, a roll, and cheese and crackers. Desert included a delicious ice cream sandwich. In between meals, we were provided a variety of snacks, including but not limited to pretzels, fruit, sandwiches, and Milano cookies. The older Korean gentleman gave me all of his snacks, so I ate pretty much everything. The second meal I ate was friend rice (with little shrimps), a Waldorf salad, and peach cheese cake.
I don't know if I can emphasize this enough, BUT SINGAPORE AIRLINES IS SUPER CLASSY.
Before the plane landed, we were given another hot washcloth for our faces. It was the most beautiful moment of refreshing respite.
And on that note, I believe I am going to take another moment of respite and sign off for now. Until next time!
Yours truly,
Rebekah
