How is Egypt settling in now she's had time to resign herself to the new setting?
She’s settling in quite well! I think she actually likes the new apartment better than the old one -- a sentiment I can relate to, hahah. Our old apartment was nice for what it was, but it didn’t have much character. This new one feels much more homey, and I think Egypt thinks so too.
Since moving here, she’s started a new habit of going upstairs to wait for me in my bed every night. It’s fucking adorable. I love my cat so much y’all.
Wow... that's A Lot of questions. Would you do Crimson, Butterscotch, Blue, and Slate, for Emory and/or Vrtanes, as applicable?
Thank you so much for your interest in my fellas!
Crimson: Have you ever been in war? If so, describe how it impacted you.
Emory hasn’t seen war firsthand, but it has affected his family. His older brother George was drafted to serve in WWI and was killed at the Battle of Belleau Wood in 1918. It was a devastating loss for the entire family but especially for Emory, who was closer to his brother than to anyone else in his family.
Vrtanes hasn’t served in a war as a soldier, but he has seen and felt its impact keenly. It was the advent of WWI that triggered the Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire, when more than a million Armenians died after being deported from their homes to distant prisons, driven into the desert on forced death marches, or conscripted into the Ottoman military before being disarmed and executed.
By sheer luck, Vrtanes was spared from that fate, but he lost everyone dear to him and suffered imprisonment and beatings before his eventual escape across the ocean to America.
Butterscotch: Is there candy in the world you live in? If so, do you have a favorite one?
Emory’s favorite is, coincidentally, butterscotch. Vrtanes’s favorite confection is homemade halva, a dense nougat-like paste of walnuts, oil, and sugar and a traditional treat in the Middle-East and Western Asia.
Blue: Are you a creative person? How do you like to be creative?
Emory is definitely creative in his work as an architect. He sees architecture as more than merely a technical study – for him, it’s a form of art and a platform for self-expression. His buildings always start as abstract sketches where he lets himself freestyle and experiment with creative new approaches.
Vrtanes’s creativity shows itself in his words. He’s a writer of both poetry and prose and an aspiring novelist, with an advanced degree in comparative literature. He loves story-crafting and storytelling and has a talent for improv and making up stories on the spot. He’s also a hobbyist musician who sings and plays the oud.
Slate: If you could erase any memory from your life, would you do it? If so, which memory would you chose?
Emory would erase the memory of seeing his wife’s body in the hospital after she was struck and killed by a car. He had insisted on being allowed to see her, but afterwards he wished that he hadn’t. It’s a memory that haunts him.
Vrtanes wouldn’t erase any of his memories. He certainly has some horrible memories of events that he wishes hadn’t happened, but he would say that the past is a part of who he is, and that to erase any of his memories would be to erase a part of himself.
Send me a shade of color for my OCs to answer.
Talk about your crew's motivations/goals; what sorts of things keep them going or help them get up in the morning even if it's a shitty day? What sorts of maybe seemingly inconsequential little things can make them grin a little and think the world's not entirely as bad all that after all? What drives them- a sense of responsibility, something to prove, a desire to help out, curiosity, sheer bloody-minded stubbornness? I dunno, just ramble for whomever you like.
ended up writing a bit of a drabble for this.
Someone had asked Sundown once, “What are you looking for?”
At the time, he’d been looking for his other boot. But inthe haze of the hangover and the already rising heat of the sweltering summerday, the question had twisted into something deeper.

PILF I THINK HUNGARY IS THIS YEAR'S EUROVISION AU BAHOREL
CAN’T BE they made it through the First Round:P
for the character thing, John Childermass
general opinion: fall in a hole and die | don’t like them | eh | they’re fine I guess | like them! | love them | actual love of my life Honestly, though, who doesn’t love Childers??
hotness level: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoretically hot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bangNot since Viggo Mortensen’s Aragorn has the “Area Man Spent Three Weeks Deprived Of Sleep Before Being Dragged Through Twenty Consecutive Hedges” look been so bloody sexy. Also, those eyes.
hogwarts house: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuffmwahaha this is my attempt at being Controversial™. But think about it. Think about it. Childermass has his cause - the restoration of English magic - and he’s prepared to power through a hell of a lot of shit (from Norrell, from Lascelles, from the world in general) in order to see that achieved. He’s very loyal, to his King, and to Norrell (don’t try and tell me he’s not loyal to Norrell, don’t even do it). His ability to see the need for balance between Norrellite and Strangeite magic also seems like a very Hufflepuff trait. And his ability to get along with most people, whether that’s gentlemen like Norrell and Strange, or folk of his own working-class background, like the other servants of Hurtfew, or Vinculus’ wives, etc.Yeah, John Childermass is totally a Hufflepuff. I’ll nail my colours to the mast of this one. :P
best quality: The Childersass! I like how sure he is of himself.
worst quality: Probably the fact that he goes along with a lot of Norrell’s shit, like suppressing other magicians, closing down societies, etc. He presumably resigns himself to it as a necessary evil of the greater cause, but I think he might probably have been able to talk him out of it.
ship them with: See my Lascelles answers! Also, based on that one line towards the end, I’d quite like to know about him and Hannah.
brotp them with: Norrell. Despite the tensions in their relationship, and the class divide, they have spent many years together, and they just get each other.
needs to stay away from: Eh, no one. He’s not a threat to anyone who doesn’t deserve it, and he can hold his own against anyone who tries to threaten him.
misc. thoughts: I’m still sorting out my Childermass headcanons, and me being me, I’m especially interested in his past as a sailor. The book says he copied his cards from a sailor in Whitby, so he might have gone to sea there himself, which would imply he was probably working the colliers. But I’ve been toying with the idea he might have ran from a King’s ship. (I don’t see naval discipline sitting very well with him.) Given his background as a thief, might he have been one of those men who was given a choice between naval service or the gaol? Going by various details in the book, he seems to have entered Norrell’s service about 1790, so he’d be a bit before the Quota Acts of ‘75, but the practice wasn’t unknown even before then - albeit mostly from the debtors’ prisons.
I don’t know. I’m still mulling it over!
