Say what you will about the nature of forgiveness, but turning it into something unconditional to heal the part of someone that's a self-destructive, abused child does cut rather deep. There's satisfaction in knowing that losing control both damned and saved Vincent. I know it was a controversial choice, but I do like it.
Vincent is a character that can't let go of his childhood and maladaptive tendencies, and Ada is a character that's relatively confident in her identity. She doesn't just accept the roles given to her. Ada's able to usurp Vincent's need for control—a need he never actually meets, because his "control" is false. It's much more natural for her. I think it's really interesting to explore how something so traumatic for Vincent ends up being healing in the hands of someone who genuinely wants the best for him.
(Get power-of-love-and-forgivenessed, asshole!)
