Erasure: The Breakdemic has me digging through my past, reliving moments of pride but more importantly, big learning curves from embarrassments. I really love Andy and Vince, but in 1996 I missed the mark in a shoot with them for MUTE records. I made these photos for myself rather than for my pop star, all technique, crunchy German expressionism. Vince was very tack-full / kind on viewing the images after the fact, saying he liked the images, but Andy was honest…. to the point these photos are not about us. I remember this was a turning point in my work. I always say “I make images for my pop stars, I don’t put them in mine”….thank you Andy for being genuine, and happy B-day , you never age.
