Here's an up close look at this beauty! It was refurbished Jeff by @kirschdrumsportland for @parrotdiceguitars It's a 50s WFL shell with Ludwig lugs, modern Ludwig throw off and new wrap. A few holes were plugged and white paint applied to the interior so it's basically a Jazz Festival with a little more depth. I think it was originally a WFL Contest or a Super Classic model. Anyway, this baby has a new life to be used for tracking, gigs and lessons! Still waiting for new snare wires and hoops to come in the mail, hopefully no more than another week. For not, I have some S-hoops on it since they were flat and round. S- hoops are not my cup of tea though. So, these photos of my vintage Ludwig Club Date 14"x20", 10"x14" (field snare/floor tom) and 8"x12" were taken right after the unboxing live stream (with and without audio hahah) Wednesday night using the Canon 50D (another COVID repair project) to show Jeff Kirsch's skills with repairing shells and cutting bearing edges. Oh, and the new vintage style hoops!! When I bought these drums last spring all separately, there was a little poplar rot, some small gaps and a split or two on some of the bearing edges. After some wood filling and glue work, the edge shape was restored with humps removed and then sanded and sealed. All the bass hardware , internal muffler parts for the field snare and heads being shipped as we speak! For now I'm going to get to work repainting the interior of the bass drum and rack tom with Benjamin Moore Regal Semi Gloss Finish N333 (Formerly - Benjamin Moore Aqua Glo White early 1960's). Shots from a bay area mom & pop music shop Paragon Music that is closing this weekend. Some classic Ludwigs that have been sitting high up on a shelf in this store since at least the 70s.... The one in the front is a Pioneer but in the back, not really sure. Oh checkout that wooden rack/rail on the white kit with the tacked toms. Original heads on both except the batter side of both bass drums are completely destroyed. Playing some Bikutsi! It's also a specific dance originating around what I now Yaoundé. There is such a wealth of rhythm from West Africa, this one coming from Cameroon.
